GEMA-nisation of Kenya/What we need in Subaland! I have always said, "Suba district is the only district I know does not have an inch of a tarmac road, an inch of water pipe, an inch of electricity, an inch of anything you can think of in terms of social amenities etc. It is not because we did something to warrantee us neglect from our own government, it is not because we are an enclave of Uganda, it is not because our votes don't count, it is not because we have sent to the house incompetent representatives, it is not because we don't make enough noise or, cry out loud enough to be heard." I can honestly tell you, "only God knows why"? I) I would like to appeal to Agwambo Tinga to have a serious meeting with the president on behalf of the Suba people, so that the president can issue an executive decree to tarmac Homa/bay -Mbita road. I do not mean to be doing Otieno Kajwang's job from my base in Georgia. But Kajwang' should have been the first person to camp at Raila's office to put up this request the next morning when Raila became the Roads Minister. Instead, Kajwang' was busy crying for a plum position in a Kibaki government, yet his constituency is an eye sore. What kind of leadership is this? Raila just told us, the Homa-Bay Mbita road was listed as already tarmacked by the crooks. Our Mp's don't know about this, they did'nt even bother to know. Raila comes all the way from Lang'ata to tell them things in their constituencies. This is overworking Agwambo Tinga in Luoland. He can't be the one going around finding things for cry babies. Our MP's needs to run around like crazy lest in the next elections, Raila drop them like hot potatoes. II) Someone filled up the Mbita channel with so much dirt that became an ecosystem disaster. As soon as the tarmac road reaches Mbita point, this channel of dirt needs to be removed so that the water current can easily over flow to the Winam Gulf. It blocked the under water current overflow, and the free movement of fish. It brought starvation to the lake people...who used to depend on fish for their survival. It blocked the free movement of fish to Homa/Bay, Uyoma, Kendu Bay, Nyakach, Asembo Bay, all the way to Kisumu. People are starving because some idiot did not know that the channel is the only way for the fish to these destinations. The Cow boy contractor who singed up for this contract did a very lousy job. Raila needs to find this crook and hang him by the nearest tree. III) Mbita point needs no neglect for it is the home of one of the most prestigious scientific research centers in Africa. International Center for Insects, Physiology and Ecology (ICIPE). ICIPE is an international connection for scientists and student interns from all over the world. How can such a place be so neglected, and what is the rest of the world thinking about it? We need a flashy highway from Homa-Bay to Mbita point thro to the Rusinga Island. The highway must go around the Rusinga island, with electricity and telephone. The Rusinga Island is the resting place of the great African icon, Tom Joseph Mboya. It should not be neglected. The government must make Mboya's grave a national monument. It is a big shame that Mboya with all the contributions he made to the African continent, is so neglected. We need a Tom Mboya day in Kenya, and we need Tom Mboya high school Kaswanga in the Rusinga Island to be a "Tom Mboya University /College". Is there anybody out there who can answer me? IV) The stalled Mbita fish processing industry must now be revived to provide jobs for the people of Subaland, and Lambwe Valley Game reserve needs some five star lodges in the wilderness (eg Serena, Hilton, etc) just like they have them in the boonies of Maasai Mara and other places like that in Kenya.. So that we can have revenue from the toursit industry. The high way needs to snake its way around to Sindo, Gwassi , Sori and other places with sandy beaches so that we can build resorts for those who love to swim, wallow and bask in the fresh water Lake Victoria. (Kila kitu yawezakana kwa sherikali ya Mwai Kibaki na Raila Odinga). V) We need a Railway line from Kisumu to Mbita point alongside the roads, thro' Ahero, Nyakach, Kendu-Bay, Homa-Bay all the way to Mbita point so that transporting goods does not necessarily depend on roads but rail as well as water. Our water ways must be busy with goods vessels as well as passenger vessels. Nobody needs to sit in the hot sun (bus stand) the whole day waiting for one bus/matatu from Kisumu to Mbita point. It is a waste of time. It is also a waste of life. People can not be expected to leave longer in that kind of environment/situation. It wears them out, it tears them up so quickly. Life has to be smooth/easy for the people to leave longer. How can it take a person the whole day to reach a destination of only 42 Km (21 miles) ? That is what it takes me by public transportation from Homa-Bay to Mbita Point. VI) We need some very well equipped hospitals and schools. Our schools needs to be upgraded... the conditions in Suba district schools is very pathetic, it sucks, it make s me wanna puke. Our hospitals stinks. Mrs Ngilu needs to tour Suba district health centers, she will come back to Nairobi and eat nothing for weeks, or she will never go back there again. Chances are, whoever is admitted into these hospitals is not coming back home. People who are admitted with a mere cold will leave that hospital with 50 other deceases including HIV/AIDS. Public hospitals in Kenya are human genocide. VII) In Subaland, we depend on fish, our fishing industry needs no neglect. The government needs to make sure, that the fishermen who spend most of their time in water for a living, sells their fish to a person who pays them good so that they can earn a descent living, not some crooks running around in a cold storage (truck) along the beaches taking fish away from people for pennies. What kind of business is this? This is robbery without violence. Don't take fish away from people as if they don't need it. They need it for food, they need it to send their children to school and they need it to earn a descent living. Therefore, there should be some organization in the fishing business, just like there is for farmers. Farmers till the land, fisherman till the water. They all need protection. Someone needs to listen to them sometimes. VIII) The Kibaki government will hardly function like the Moi governement. Aren't we just so lucky that we are finally out of this mess? We shall never have a Moi type of government again. From now onwards, Kenyans will be firing and hiring leaders. The way Kibaki is doing his appointments, may not augur well with him in these categories: 1. Right now Kibaki can make all his GEMA appointements just as much as he wants. But when the parliament reconvenes, things will have to change: Those who are opposed to this will table the bill. The legislature has authority over the executive: a) They can reject all his appointments . b) They can impeach or remove him. C) They can refuse to ratify most of his treaties. d) They can conduct investigations into all his actions. e) They can refuse to pass laws or to provide for all that the he requests. f) As you can see he is trapped.
