Volunteers needed for Luo Community Everywhere Projects

Luo Genealogy Project:
This will be an online genealogy site for the Luo community. It will help us trace and fill in the blanks in our roots using modern genealogy tools. What we hope to have in the end is a whole Luo family tree tracing our roots from Sudan to the present day, wherever we may be in the world. It will be encompassing all the Luo tribes (Achol, Alur, Anuak, Bor, Burun, Jumjum, Jur, Kuman, Lango, Luo, Mabaan, Padhola, Pari, Shilluk, Thuri).

Jaluo.com will facilitate an online development environment so that those interested in contributing to this project can collaborate easily. Those who join will initially look at different major genealogy sites and also evaluate different genealogy software available and decide the best practices and software to use for our project. Thereafter, they will develop the site and make it available to the general Luo community to add or edit the data as necessary.

The best people to join this project are software developers, Luo historians, people interested in Luo genealogy, students and faculty of Luo ethnicity, education/welfare grant writers.

Please submit your letter of interest titled “Luo Genealogy Project” to Odundo jaKarateng’ mailto:odundo@jaluo.com . Please indicate your area of expertise.

Luo dictionary Project:
Luo dictionary will be an online Luo to English dictionary to assist the Luo community and others interested in our language to learn the meaning of our different words in our different Luo languages. The dictionary will be encompassing all the Luo languages (Achol, Alur, Anuak, Bor, Burun, Jumjum, Jur, Kuman, Lango, Luo, Mabaan, Padhola, Pari, Shilluk, Thuri).

Luo Welfare Project
As has been reported many times in the media, the Luo tribes are predominantly the poorest in the country where they reside in the East African region. Volunteers to this committee will analyze the whys of the current welfare conditions of our diversified Luo tribes. They will then come up with concrete recommendations for tackling these welfare challenges afflicting the Luo community.

The best people to join this project are community activists, people employed in the social field, politicians, everyone interested in the welfare of the Luo community (Achol, Alur, Anuak, Bor, Burun, Jumjum, Jur, Kuman, Lango, Luo, Mabaan, Padhola, Pari, Shilluk, Thuri), and welfare grant writers.
