KALONZO MUSYOKA'S WEBSITE NOT HACKED
- BY DAVID OPON
A few days ago, some individual, whom we suspect is a NARC-K sympathiser and sponsored by the government, using mwaikibaki at yahoo dot com address, discreetly sent emails to individuals who are known to support ODM-K, especially in Washington, DC. The emails simly notified them of the following websites Kalonzofoundation.org and odm-kenya.org. Clicking on the Kalonzofoundation.org URL (Universal Resource Locator) re-directs one to www.raila07.com with the top browser bar showing a message that reads: "KALONZO BACKS RAILA". Clicking on the odm-Kenya.org URL re-directs one to a Kenya government website. A quick check by IT experts both in Nairobi and United States reveals that neither kalonzofoundation.org belongs to Hon.Kalonzo Musyoka Foundation, nor does odm-kenya.org belong to ODM-K. The Kalonzo Musyoka Foundation Website is www.kalonzomusyokafoundation.org and the ODM-K website which is not fully developed is www.odmk.org. None of these websites were hacked. The fraudsters be it government sponsored fraudsters are attempting to hoodwink Kenyans into believing a lie.
The Standard's headline, unfortunately, is misleading. The government agents
simply registered variations of the names of the said organizations and re-directed
their visitors to either
www.raila07.com
and the government website respectively. This action
is not "HACKING" as reported by the Standard newspaper rather is known as
"Cyber-squatting". People register names with the hopes of cutting a cash
deal with the real owners. During the US Presidential elections squatters
registered KerryEdwards.com and netted close to $150,000. The registration
of a domain name these days is as cheap as $2.00 for one year. The squatters
who registered the fake website for Kalonzo Musyoka Foundation however forgot
to secure the domains, thus allowing IT experts to get their full information.
ODM-Kenya Washington DC, The Kalonzo Musyoka Foundation and administrators
of Hon.Raila's website are working together to release more information to
the public regarding this type of cyber thuggery. This kind of internet thuggery
is an offence under US Federal Law and can result in the squatter doing a
substantial amount of jail time. We have managed to get the name and
address of the said squatter. We hope that the above clarification
will settle down the panic caused by the The Standard newspaper.
