For more, visit; http://www.narckenya.or.ke/about.htm Through the free democratic and open space that President Kibaki has accorded to all of us, women will continue to build the Kenyan nation where the dignity of every person is respected and where opportunity is within reach of all our citizens irrespective of their gender. As an example, President Kibaki directed that women should form 30 percent of all newly recruited public servants. He further directed that all Chairpersons of Maendeleo Ya Wanawake at the provincial, district, and divisional levels be co-opted as automatic members of all Provincial, District, and Constituency Development as well as HIV/AIDS Coordination Committees. This will enable women to monitor and influence development that benefits them and children. SOLID REASONS WHY PRESIDENT KIBAKI SHOULD BE RE-ELECTED '07 & HIS POSITIVE VISION FOR WOMEN Safeguard the gains made by the Government by voting back Kibaki 2007 3 His Excellency Mwai Kibaki The Government's Development Record Speaks for Itself Economy The most important undertaking of President Kibaki's government was to revive the economy and improve the quality of life of all Kenyans. Kenyans have achieved that objective, with the economy growing at 5.8 percent in 2005, and the expectation is to continue achieving better performance in future. This means the government is on track to attain its principal objective of ensuring that every Kenyan enjoys a better quality of life1. The improved economic performance has been achieved as a result of a combination of deliberate policy measures targeted at ensuring macro economic stability, improvement of infrastructure and strengthening of the productive and service sectors. With respect to the financial sector, the government has succeeded in stabilizing interest rates thereby making credit more affordable and available. In 2005 for instance, credit to agricultural sector grew by 18 per cent, while credit to business services grew by 28 per cent and credit to building and construction grew by 32 per cent. In 2006, Parliament enacted the Micro-Finance Act, which provides a legal framework for the operations of small financial institutions. We are encouraging the growth of these institutions because they are better placed to serve our micro and small enterprises in urban and rural areas.
