Hon. Raila A. Odinga of Kenya to be  Honored during March 2007 Africa Awareness Month Opening Celebrations in Tallahassee, Florida, U.S.A.

 

 

United States-based NGO, Tallahassee and African Sister Cities Coalition Incorporated (TASCC) will honor Hon. Raila A. Odinga as recipient of the TASCC 2007 Africa Awareness Award of Excellence during the 6th Annual Observance of Africa Awareness Month opening celebrations in Tallahassee, Florida on March 6-9, 2007.   The award recognizes Hon. Odinga, Member of Parliament for Langata, Nairobi and 2007 Kenya's Presidential Candidate for dedicating his life to public service and unrelenting effort to democratize politics, eliminate tribalism, nepotism and corruption in Kenya.  

 

The chairperson and founder of TASCC, Dr. Willie L. Butler said that the Honorable Curtis Richardson, Representative of the State of Florida and Mrs. Linda Dilworth, COO of KMR Consultants would co-chair the occasion.  He further announced that the guest list includes dignitaries such as Gambian Ambassador Dodou Bammy Jagne, Tanzanian Ambassador Andrew Daraja, Dr. Axmed Elobeid, Senior Economic and Social Affairs Officer of the African Union Permanent Mission to the United Nations, Tallahassee Mayor John Marks, and Leon County Commission Chairman Bill Proctor.   Hon . Odinga's itinerary includes speaking engagements; meetings with diverse groups of Florida' s leadership in banking, business, education, and politics; interviews with members of the Tallahassee Press Corp; local radio and television talk show interviews.  

 

Since March 2002, TASCC has promoted the annual observance of Africa Awareness Month to achieve the following objectives:  

  1. Nurture and promote greater communication and interaction between African-Americans, and African-born and Caribbean-born residents in the United States.    
  2. Implement programs and strategies to enhance public awareness and knowledge of contemporary Africa.
  3. Encourage African-born residents in the U.S. to play a pivotal and significant role in correcting distortions and false perceptions of African life and history that prevail within the American public.  
  4. Institutionalize an annual period to foster collaborative efforts between parties to develop and initiate mutually beneficial partnerships in areas of economic develop, education, community initiatives, art and culture, health, tourism, and technology. 

 

Currently, there is no monetary value attached to the Africa Awareness Award of Excellence.
