We are loosing focus very fast Dear all As at now, I do not care whether Raila is the best luo leader or not. What I care about is a luo who can be heard. One who can be chosen to lead Kenya. One that has the potential of championing luo rights at the highest level. The kikuyus understand this better than the luos. When multi party politics was at its infancy and Odinga was in charge of FORD, the kikuyus realized that Kibaki had no chance. They saw Matiba as having the potential. At that time Kibaki was criticized while Matiba was exalted. Indeed everything about Matiba sounded too perfect. He ended up getting higher votes that Kibaki. After that Uhuru came up but Kibaki had the best chance. Most of them praised Kibaki as if he was an angel. As at now, I am yet to come across a kikuyu who will publicly vilify Kibaki. That does not mean that there is something they don’t like about him. But in him they see good things. The luos have suffered. No luo can tell me that Tuju or Ouma Muga, or Otieno Karan or Ochuodho or Orengo has the chance that Raila has. It amazes me to hear things that Raila had done coming to light now. One should ask a question as to why now? Someone would tell me that they are doing this so that our leader is properly tested and held accountable. While this could be a good idea, it is a very very bad idea right now. The reason being that we are giving the enemy the spear to spear us with. Luos worth their salt must support their son now. Why? Because when all the dust settles, they and their children are luos. Whether they are tribalist or not, Kenya is very tribal especially when it comes to a luo. Kenyan tribes had been sensitized about the luos. I remember, immediately after Dr. Ouko died, the former president Daniel Arap Moi invited a bunch of luo MPS and university students to his home. I was there, though insignificant. After peppering us with praises, he bluntly said that the luos are too proud, too arrogant and after adding a few examples he clearly stated that for these reasons other tribes do not like the luos and yet he himself does. Politics as usual it was. While some people in this forum may not believe this I do. I went to school in a region dominated by a specific tribe but the advanced high school was thoroughly tribally diversified. The luos were very prominent and were mentioned almost every day in the assembly in bad taste. And at one point when the results came up the luos were topping all the charts and the whole assembly murmured. Now this is an isolated case but it taught me a lesson. If someone works hard and wins a trophy for a school, shouldn’t he be praised? Why should he be shouted down. It is sad but this is the state of affairs. The luo name has been trashed and blackened amongst the Kenyan tribes. So until the luos re-educate other tribes and let them know that being a luo is synonymous with being fair, non corrupt, hard work, we have to get someone up there to be an example. Raila has the best chance. When we heap bad things on him right now, whether he did them or not we cut down our chances to the throne. For heavens shake, Rev Otura, Arum Tidi and other friends, I beg that we tone down until after Raila is nominated for ODMK seat and is elected president. After this we can criticize him. Why do I say this. I say so because I believe we have a lot to loose when he looses than we get when we criticize him publicly now and we cost him the presidency. I am a critic too but I have realized that this does not help now. However, I must also request Raila to publicly condemn the politics of thuggery in Nyanza. I believe he has the power to stop it. It must be stopped now. Nyanza must be an example to the whole of the republic of Kenya. Our focus should be Riala Tosha. We must not loose that focus. Please let us not add soil instead of salt into our own soup. Peace to all of ya Barack Abonyo ===================================================== Joluo.com Ka in gi mari moro ma di wandik ka to orni |
