MARERA CLAYWORKS YOUTH GROUP IN DILLEMA. REPORT BY, ELIUD AUDI. Luocome Reporter, Karateng’ Marera Clayworks Youth Group project has been issued with a one week notice to clear off their activities from the Lela-Chulaimbo road reserve. The youth group specializing in brick processing was last Wednesday issued with an ultimatum until Wednesday next week to create way for road expansion project by the ministry of public works through the area chief, Mr.Samson Omondi. The group led by their chairman Mr.Odhiambo Amollo has tried since then to meet the area chief in attempts to plead for the notice extension without success. Speaking to the press at the site of brick processing, Mr. Amollo agreed with the order as of good intentions, but requested the authorities concerned to at least extend the order till 30th of May to enable the group dispose of their current stock of bricks at the site. A visit by the press to the site, revealed several thousands piles of bricks neatly arranged by the roadside amidst several pits exceeding 5feet deep and 20metres wide by the roadside. Mr. Amollo described their project as of high returns and their source of livelihood, since all the group members are not formally employed elsewhere. The group established in early 2000, comprise of secondary school leavers from the surrounding Mbalawandu, Marera and Kajumbo villages within Kisumu rural constituency. The youth group is now planning to take their pleas to an advanced level if attempts to reach consensus through the area chief fails this Tuesday week. Joluo.com Akelo nyar Kager, jaluo@jaluo.com |
