[kca-info] KENYANS ABROAD VOTING RIGHTS PETITION Time and again, it has been acknowledged by Kenyan leaders that the Kenyan Diaspora remits a phenomenal amount of money to Kenya, much more than what the government borrows as foreign aid. In a recent visit to the US, House Speaker, Francis Ole Kaparo, acknowledged this fact once again to an audience of Kenyans in Washington, D.C. The Diaspora's contribution to Kenya's economy is an ever growing responsibility attached to the very core of our belief that no matter the physical distance, we are still Kenyans. We deserve the rights that go with this unquestionable socio-economic responsibility that we continue to bear for as Kenyans. The right to vote is our right as citizens who now seek full engagement in the political destiny of our country as heavily as we seek to engage in its economic growth. Dual Citizenship must equally be recognized as inseparable from our right to vote. Elevating Kenya to an issue-based political maturity that easily enables the dreams and freedoms of all Kenyans must be in our interest. We seek to do this through our right to vote. We, Kenyans abroad, resolve that we shall not remain a disenfranchised people. Ours is the power of thousands. We, Kenyans abroad, hereby petition the Government of Kenya to entrench in the constitution the right to vote for all Kenyans abroad.
