LUOCOME is looking for a luo Doctor Volunteer to help collect information on blood exposure that might be risks the HIV acqusition among the Luo men, women and children Could we get Doctors to help collect some information on blood exposures that might be risks for HIV acqusition among young Luo men and women? There are a lot of AIDS experts pushing for circumcision. If we are going to hold back demands for circumcision, we need to have more information about risks other than sex -- specifically, where might young Luo men and women be exposed to blood? It would be good, for example, to know how often they go to clinics, and what for. Injections? Blood tests? STD treatment? Also, what about shaving? Tattooing? Body piercing? Etc. To build the case, it would be good if we could prepare a short note for a medical journal about blood exposures, with some evidence that you and others collect. This would take some commitment of time by you and/or others in Kenya -- to interview people, observe medical procedures, etc. Devon Brewer has experience in research, and could advise what to do (by telephone and email). I also have some experience. If we can work together, then we could help you and/or others you recommend to draft a note -- maybe we could coauthor. Devon and I have done a lot of publishing, and we have contacts with some medical journals. If we can get good information, we should be able to help you and others to get something published. Then, those who have worked on this note would also be able to lead training and education -- to advise people how to avoid HIV from blood exposures. Best regards, David PS: To see a list of the articles that Devon and I have published in medical journals, go to pubmed at: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/query.fcgi?CMD=search&DB=pubmed and search for gisselquist, or for brewer David Gisselquist can be reach at david_gisselquist@yahoo.com, in USA.
