Addressing press in Oyugis, Mrs. Jane Kiche called for sobriety in election matters and termed the chaos as naive and a gesture in bad taste.Mrs. Kiche who is gunning for the seat of chairperson at the district wondered about the timing of the controversy saying that Ministry of Culture and Social Services had given deadline for the submission of nomination forms as 31st of October 2006. "Why raise the complaints now when all the nominees names have been submitted at the district"? she asked. Another staunch member from Rachuonyo who talked on condition of anonmity castigated the forces ridiculing Mrs. Jane Kiano mandate."It is the National Governing Council (NGC)that mandated Mrs. Kiano to chair Election committee.She emphasised that women must be realistic in their pursuit if they want Kenyans to take them seriously. She said that NGC is supreme and the constitution is clearly spelt.Adding that if Mrs. Kiano is doubted then a special NGC should be convened. "Moreover one is only allowed to contest from district level if she is a life member for at least three years," Some people want to jump the line which is unacceptable,"she added. According the copies shown to the press, many slots in various districts and provinces lack applicants to contest in the coming elections indicating that many women are uninterested in the organization's leadership. Mrs.Kiche further challenged women to wake up to the reality saying leadership comes withresponsibilty.She reiterated that MYWO is a membership body that has its rules and regulations to be followed. Mrs. Kiche reminded MYWO members that their action might be misintepreted as inclined to political parties. She again mentioned that the Ministry has approved everything and all facilities have been put in place for the forthcoming election. Contesting fee for a seat at the district, provincial and national level goes with Kshs.3,000.Kshs.10,000.and Kshs.15,000.respectively.
