MUHORONI MP NOW CHIDES AND IGNORES THE LUO 'KER' AT HIS OWN PERIL

For the modern Luos of Kenya, that title is now held by none other than the grey goated Mzee Meshack Riaga Ogalo who historians are querying up to today how, who and by what method he was made the KER. Translated into modern terms, Mzee Ogalo is now the chairman of the Luo Council of Elders or simply KER. Both past and present Luo KERs are highly respected, highly adored and recognized to semi fanatical and zealot levels. Past ones used to have some sacrilegious, extraordinary and supernatural powers over and above the community. Whenever, wherever they visited and passed, the people felt blessed and good omen was likely to follow. And indeed that never missed to follow. The first week of January 2007 was a very sad one for the residents of Muhoroni Constituency as they lost a member of the Luo Council of Elders and a nominated councilor Mrs. Benter Alwala. The KER spared all his busy community schedules to attend her body's removal from the Star Hospital Mortuary in Kisumu and her subsequent burial at her Kowawa farm near Muhoroni township on 20/01/2007. Muhoroni people felt honoured, blessed and respected by the omni presence of Mzee Riaga Ogalo at this grand send off. One man who for very unknown reasons looked most uncomfortable and disrespectful with KER's presence in his constituency was the MP for Muhoroni himself. As a sign of treasonable disrespect to the KER, the MP arrived three hours after the community leader was already seated. That means he did not welcome him nor did he receive him in his own turf. This is not acceptable in our community and punishable by the community wrath. When the MP finally arrived he passed by the coffin, paid his last respects to the late and proceeded to greet the KER. The greeting was so casual, disgusting and simple that caught everybody by surprise. More surprisingly too was that instead of sitting with the KER the beleaguered Muhoroni MP just walked away to go and sit amongst the crowd. The crowd almost burst into laughter as they saw their MP literally abandon the KER and sit far, far away from the grand old man. Without prejudice and with due respect to the honourable MP, he must be taken to task to explain his unbecoming conduct and behaviour towards the KER. Otherwise the gods of the Luos and all past KERS will arise to demand that respect. This reporter is further informed that the MP arrived late at the funeral because he was still organizing thugs and goons to take him to the grand funeral. The MP had previously told his supporters that he feared being booed at and poisoned in that funeral so he had to go with hired goons and armed youths. In the morning of 20/01/2007, a lorry nicknamed AGWATI and which is associated with the MP, traversed the width and breath of N.E. Kano collecting armed youths to attend the funeral. The armed youths were paid 500/= each whereas the amount paid to the dreaded Baghdad boys remains unknown. But AGWATI managed to collect about 30 armed youths only as opposed to the 100 they expected. Local youths still remember how some of them were hired during the LDP elections last year and were never paid. They also remember some of their colleagues who were hired only to be beaten senseless for which the MP never cared. They also remember their colleagues who are still rotting at Kodiaga Prison following their arrest during the LDP party elections in 2006. They remember... Parents of the youths still rotting at Kodiaga Prison are very bitter with this MP who hired their sons to do dirty job for him. He has never visited them in prison nor paid medical bills for those who were badly injured while in his mean payroll. That is the current MP for Muhoroni, the one who chides and ignores a whole KER in his own constituency. An MP who has to hire armed Baghdad boys from Kisumu to attend a funeral in his own constituency. An MP who will not hesitate to hire a lorry load of youths to terrorize local people attending a funeral in his Muhoroni Constituency. This is the MP who wants to be re-elated to the next parliament.
