JOY, REACTION AS AFFORDABLE AIRLINE SPREADS ITS WINGS TO LAKESIDE CITY, KISUMU.

No sooner has the dust settled on the recent re-carpeting of the Kisumu'
airport runway, than another pocket-friendly airline stretched its operations
to Kisumu city, casting more light at the end of the tunnel, ahead of the
refurbishment and extension of the airport, earmarked by the government this year.

The FLY 540, which is scheduled to kick off its flight operations officially
on 12th January from Nairobi to Kisumu, will have an introduction of two flights.

The flights will leave Nairobi daily at 9.00a.m and 4.4p.m. They have a choice
of two fares with different levels of flexibility, said Nixon Ooko, the FLY 540
operations Director, while in Kisumu.

Return fares will have threshold pay and go starter fare of 6, 540, plus
taxes. Return flights depart conveniently from Kisumu at 10.15a.m and 5.55p.m.

Ooko also told news reporters, that the tickets of the flight will be
available in Mombasa, Kisumu and Nairobi, from travel agents of the FLY 540 offices.

Further, Ooko said that the airline, which currently is headquartered in
Nairobi, operates its services from the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport. It
was driven by the growing demand for value for money air travel from passengers, coupled with popularity and increased request from potential travelers, to spread it wings to Kisumu, he noted.

The extension plan includes the introduction of international services in the
first quarter of this year, divulged Ooko. Flight fleet expansion programme will
include the addition of two more A TR 42-32O turbo prop, which is far more fuel efficient than a jet aircraft, during this year.

A TR 42-320 aircraft has less impact on ozone layer, and upper atmosphere, and  flies at lower altitude than a jet aircraft.

The new development has sent cold shivers down the spine of the East African Airlines (EAA) prompting them to reduce airfares by half. The return ticket which was initially a staggering 12000 shillings has been downed to 6000
shillings, eliciting sharp reaction across the political divide.

Under the tutelage of Migori Mp, Owino Likowa, the legislators took issue with EAA management's move saying they have cashed in on their popularity for so long, to exploit the passengers. Adding that they should tell the passengers why they arrived at that decision, only at a time a competitor FLY 540, has flexed its muscles to the lakeside city. "They should refund us our hefty monies they have been collecting" thundered the outspoken Mp in the parliament..
