KENYA PLANTATION & AGRICULTURAL WORKERS UNION CHEMELIL BRANCH P.O. BOX 287, MUHORONI The Director, Kenya Anti-Corruption Commission, P.O. Box 61130, NAIROBI. Dear Sir, REF: THE SUDDEN WEALTH OF PROF. J. NYABUNDI, MD CHEMELIL SUGAR CO. MUST BE INVESTIGATED. Professor Julius Nyabundi was a professor of Horticulture at Maseno University before becoming MD of Chemelil Sugar Co. in 2003. Like a majority of Luo professors, Nyabundi was a poor man. He owned a semi-permanent house at his rural home. He also ventured into business with his brothers at Kombewa market. He had one wife, an older Peugeot 504 and ventured into sukuma wiki business at Maseno University. To our surprise, this man is now a multi-millionaire just within three years. All his salaries added together for three years cannot make him a multi-millionaire. So where and what are his sources of sudden riches? This is what Kenya Anti-Corruption Authority should investigate as it has done with many other corrupt Kenyans. To assist you, here are some tips: - Nyabundi now boasts of four wives from one he had. What a primitive professor but that is his own life. All the four wives he has each has a palatial home in his rural home area. The houses run into tens of millions of shillings. Where did he get all these within a short period. Each of Nyabundi's wives has brand new Pajeros also costing several millions of shillings. Just imagine. His children can now learn in high cost private schools and universities here in Kenya and abroad. He is himself sponsoring his many children and brothers to private universities. In Kisumu town, Prof. Nyabundi boasts of several posh buildings in Milimani estate. Last year alone, he bought four high cost maissonets in Milimani in Kisumu. He has also bought land in Kisumu, costing millions of shillings where he intends to put up an estate. Surely, he must be milking Chemelil Sugar Co. dry. We are further informed that some of the houses he bought in Kisumu are not in his name. His properties are registered in the names of his many wives and concubines. That means, your investigations should extend to his many wives and children in whose names the houses in Kisumu and vehicles are registered. Not to forget are several hectres of sugarcane land he bought in Chemelil recently. He boasts of about 300 hectres of Land in Chemelil, Koru, Muhoroni and Fort-Tenan. All these sugarcane plantations are developed and maintained for free using company tractors and fertilizers. Imagine that all these were acquired in less than three years duration. And the source is the state owned Chemelil Sugar Co. Ltd. No wonder Chemelil Sugar Co. was recently declared one of the worst performing state corporations in Kenya. That is thanks to the looting and mismanagement of Prof. Nyabundi. This factory was most vibrant and successful even during the dark days under President Moi. Moi errand boys looted it but still left it intact and vibrant. Now, it is limping and insolvent under the Kibaki government due to one man, Prof. Nyabundi. Surely, the Kibaki government is to revive stalled industries but not to kill others as Nyabundi is doing to Chemelil. The factory is now insolvent. It cannot meet its obligations and pay debts. It owes farmers and merchants close to a billion shillings. The factory is in a state of disrepair and will soon grind to a halt. Farms are not maintained properly as rampant theft of diesel and fertilizers are the orders of the day. Theft of milled sugar is rampant at the factory with full knowledge of the M D. Recently, a lorry carrying stolen sugar was arrested at Awasi and no follow up was made. The lorry belongs to one of Nyabundi's very close associate. Sugar worth over 100 million shillings are known to have been stolen in Chemelil but the MD is just mum about it. No wonder this amorous professor is now stinking rich. Like all JaLuo's, professor Nyabundi is amassing wealth before plunging in elective politics in the future. That is his right but that should not be at the expense of state property and the local farming community and transporters. The last two have not been paid for months. For now, our purpose of addressing you this letter is to investigate the source of the tens of millions of shillings Prof. Nyabundi acquired in 2-3 years. How he is running down Chemelil Sugar factory should also be investigated and necessary action taken accordingly. Yours faithfully, SHOP STEWARD Joluo.com Ka in gi mari moro ma di wandik ka to orni |
