LUO MPS RUBBISH KIBAKI PLEDGE ON CONSTITUTION BY SHEM KOSSE THREE fiery Nyanza legislators dismissed President Mwai Kibaki's renewed promise to accord kenyans a new Constitution as a mere political gimmick, aimed at hoodwinking the masses The MPs publicly told off the head of state that his pledge is a waste of time and should be treated with the contempt it deserves. The Mps Dr. Oburu Odinga (Bondo) Paddy Ahenda (Kasipul Kabondo) and Ayiecho Olweny(Muhoroni) said that Kenyans are used to such outbursts as far as the new constitutional dispensation they have been yearning for is concerned. Odinga said that Kibaki has in the past pledged to give Kenyans a new constitution but that has not been realised. He nostalgically recalled, that he attended a colourful meeting in 2002 where the incumbent President pledged before church leaders, that he will give Kenyans a new constitution within six months "In fact he said that he needed less than six months to deliver the new constitution", recalled Oburu. The MPs who spoke in Bondo district at the end of the annual Migwena sports and cultural festival, used the occasion, to drum up support for the Langata MP Raila Odinga as the ODM-K Presidential candidates come the next general elections. Dubbed the Migwena declaration, the mps said that Raila is "tosha" and Kibaki should now know and read in capital letters, the writing on the wall " Kibaki toka" The outspoken Ahenda said that Raila, as one of the front runners of the ODM flagbearer, is the most suitable person to lead Kenyans adding that even the media stood to benefit a great deal, if he was elected to occupy the highest office in the land, presidency. Oburu said Kibaki has turned out to be a non-reformist, contrary to Kenyans expectations. Oburu said that 2007 is a special year given the heavy rains that continues to impound the country. He said these are signs that Kenyan have good things in store in the name of ODM-K taking over the reigns of power. Further, he loathed the Head of state who has been flirting with former President Daniel arap Moi, who was for perpetuation and propagation, of the status quo. Oburu said the same thing happened in 1963 when Kenya gained her independence. Olweny, on his part, said Kibaki's words cannot be taken seriously since he thrives on falsehoods and abusing Kenyans. "Words such as pumbavu are very common with him" he said adding that Kenyans are fed up to the brim with such utterances. The MPs sighed off, saying many Kenyans were suffering economic hardships yet the government is chest-thumping that an economic growth has been realised. A claim that is not manifesting on the common man, they said. Joluo.com Ka in gi mari moro ma di wandik ka to orni |
