Fighting for the luo cause.

Dear all

Meshak Owino wrote " Having said all these, let me focus on a few issues. I truly believe that a Luo state is not just desirable, it is possible and viable. We have a lot of resources. We have good fertile land; we have rivers and a lake; we have minerals; and we have incredibly versatile human resource. We can make"

I must commend Meshak's analysis. It is candid analysis of possibilities, advantages and disadvantages of having a luo state. While I must say that a luo state is a possibility, I am also convinced that it will not add anything to the luo cause. It is an isolationist or segregationist startegy based on a perceived idea that since the luo are great organizers, are blessed with brain power and have an impeccable intolerance for corruption and mediocracy, they could project this in making a luo state something viable and admirable. Such strategy has not worked anywhere in the world except probabaly in israel. Why israel? they are joined by an innate religious bond. Let me put it like this, they are bound by a religious unwritten strict law of which violation of such a law may be dangerous not only to ne self but also to their family. They are also have an incredible level of patriotism. The luo lack this bond. The luo bond is language and beyond that everyone is for himself. The luo patriotism to a luo himslef is questionable. My be the luo is waking up now. However, in the past 40 years a parastal led by a luo had the highest tribal diversity. That means there was very little room for nepotism. Jobs were obtained on merit and not on being a luo. There is probably no one on this planet who believes in self determination rather than collectiveness for achieving something like a luo. If you doubt me. Please let me know how many successful componeys out there are formed and owned by a group of luos. Yes there are individual luos who have formed great componeys and organizations but a group of them can only work together in politics.

This is the luo problem as far as the luo state is concerned. I beg to disagree that the luo nyanza is in its current state entirely because the government of the day has suffocated the progress of development and has discriminated against the luo. Yes it is true this has happened but that is not the whole story. The whole story is that the luos have failed to invest in luo land even at a small scale level. They have become like Africans who after they get a little money they run to invest it in the west and blame the west for their wooes.

Now comming back to the discussion of a luo state at this time. This is a very wrong time to scratch tribalistic or regional wounds especially for the luos who have one of their own at the helm of the possibility of becomming the next president. The luos must not help or add to the prevailing energy that has attempted to paint them as lovers of themselves and not kenya. Suggestion of creation of a luo state by prominent luo figures is tantamount to escalation of suspiscion that already exist. The luos must not add fuel to the laready boiling water. Give Raila a chance. He is close. You guys are muddying the water by this discussion.

Of course all of you are entitled to your opinion
Abonyo.
