KCA Congratulates Dr Asha Migiro - new UN Deputy Secretary General

The appointment of Tanzania's foreign minister, Dr. Asha Rose Migiro, as UN`s first woman Deputy Secretary General underlines UN`s renewed commitment to fulfilling the Millennium Development goals of spreading wealth and opportunity.

Passed in September 2000 by the largest ever gathering of Heads of State, the parley promised to employ trade, development assistance, debt relief, access to essential medicine and technology transfer to halve world poverty by 2015 and wipe out extreme poverty by 2025.

The Kenyan Community Abroad (KCA) notes with pride Dr. Migiro`s experience and achievements in pubclic service. We believe her appointment will put her in a better position to help steer the UN toward its mandate of building a better world.

KCA looks forward to working with Dr. Migiro in our effort to "contribute policy-shaping ideas towards the economic and political advancement of Kenya and other African nations," a mission the UNDP shares with our think tank, Agenda Africa.

We wish her godspeed in her new appointment and future endeavors.
