AUTHENTIC DEVELOPMENT FOR KASIPUL / KABONDO CONSTITUENCY

Kasipul / Kabondo is a diverse constituency which has a host of pressing problems. The fundamental issue at stake is that. We should, however be aware of dwindling agricultural production in the area since it is the mainstay of its economy.

The constituency is ideal for food production like coffee, bananas, pineapples, potatoes, cassava, passion fruit, millets, sorghum and beans as well as other food crops but the production have gone down tremendously since the coffee boom of 1977-1978. In the poorer Kasipul/Kabondo, people live almost solely on farming, which now does not generate much money as it used to do before 1980. Agricultural produce offers the prospect of income for the constituency and should be a priority area to be explored intensively and consistently.

Revenues earned from agricultural produce can be used in meeting the costs of health and education as well as other basic needs of humankind such as clothing and shelter. Therefore, there is need for technically adapted applications of fertilizers and seeds which are even genetically modified to ensure food security as well as suitable sources of finance for meeting the costs of agricultural inputs.

The people of Kasipul/Kabondo should also have affordable access to modern energy for trade and industry. Renewable energies are the key to future prospects in a globolised world. Young people in particular will appreciate rural opportunities offered by electricity supply. Otherwise, they will in growing numbers flock to overburdened urban labour markets.

The development objective in the constituency should be geared towards halving the number of people living in absolute poverty by 2015. This should be in line with the UN Millennium Development Goals (MDG)
