Re:They finally got the secret Though without much education, earthly possessions, and much of an influence to the community, the twelve disciples of Jesus need to be given credit for forsaking their families and the only occupation they knew best(fishing)to follow one who was regarded then as a self proclaimed messiah. As Jesus went about calling each one of them "follow me and I will make you fisher's of men" He was aware of the fact that the 12 were no different from their contemporaries. No, not inasmuch as sin was concerned. What made them stand out tall was their teachable spirit. With this precious trait, Jesus undertook to train them to let the world go and to "let this mind be in them that was in Christ Jesus" As you follow their daily learning in the school of Jesus, you can't help but wonder about their graduation. One is particularly concerned with their squabbling, lack of love towards one another and their spirit of competition as to who should be the greatest. After three and half years in the school of Jesus, they were where they were when Jesus admitted them to His school- still selfish, possessing the spirit of competition, and lack of love and unity, all of which were very crucial to have as leaders of the new found faith. This came out during the last supper when they all failed to demonstrate the skills of humility. Jesus went out of His way demonstrating- a very stunning rebuke to their egos. Before leaving them, Jesus made another appeal to them to "love one another, as He had loved them" Humanly speaking by the time Jesus left to return to His heavenly home, they were not ready to take over. Unfortunately this continued until one day when their eyes were opened, they grasped that which Jesus had been teaching them and realized that they were not getting anywhere until they had all "become of one accord." It was then that the Holy spirit came upon them and they were able to do in just one day that which they had failed for a long time. The idea "when they became of one accord," truly intrigues me. Of all things, I think God's people in our generation need to become of one accord if ever we are to accomplish the mission of preparing the world for His soon return. There is enough work for everyone. God who knows the end from the beginning knows who will do which work. We should spend less time wondering as to "who will do what" and love, support and pray for one another. Shall we? Just a thought.
