Nyachae exit long overdue, leaders say

By DAN NYAKUNDI (sent by jagwassi)

A section of leaders from the Gusii community have welcomed Cabinet minister Simeon Nyachae’s move to quit active politics.

They said the move was long overdue and would be a big relief to the community. The leaders, majority of them allied to the Orange Democratic Movement party of Kenya (ODM-K), led by Evans Mirieri Ongwenyi, said Nyachae’s continued stay at the helm of Gisii politics was not a panacea to the community’s problems. The leaders drawn from West Mugirango, Kitutu Masaba, North Mugirango and Nyaribari Masaba constituencies, said it was on record since Nyachae joined politics - that the Gusii community had not benefited from his leadership in any way.

Speaking to reporters in Keroka town, the leaders challenged Nyachae to state what he had done for the community instead of telling them that he was contemplating quitting politics.

Bundled out Ongwenyi said during Nyachae’s reign, many key personalities from the area were bundled out of Government among them former Permanent secretaries James Ongwae and Zachary Ogongo, and accused him of doing nothing about the same.

The leaders further said Nyachae had divided the community, unlike during the times of the late MPs Dr Zachary Onyonka, George Anyona and Andrew Omanga. “He influences the sacking of senior servants who are not toeing his political line and replaces them with his relatives, a factor which has divided the community more,” one of the leaders claimed.

They said Nyachae had not initiated any development in the entire Gusii land which would make the community miss him.

The leaders were reacting to press reports that the Nyaribari Chache MP was contemplating retiring from politics.
