SCRAP METAL SCANDAL ROCKS CHEMELIL SUGAR COMPANY

A well orchestrated scheme to defraud Chemelil Sugar Factory of Staggering millions has been unearthed.

Investigations by this journalist can authoritatively reveal how a cartel led by the procurement manager Mr. Toby Oloo in conduit with Nairobi based firms NESCAPE and LITO enterprises have been milking dry the financially crippled sugar outfit through fictitious procurement of scrap metals.

Early last month, tendering was done and one of their favourite companies operating under the flagship LITO ENTERPRISES emerged the winner.

The firm was tasked to buy scrap metals from the sugar firm worth 6 million. In a bid to fleece the company of finances, LITO paid only a paltry 2 million but thanks to hawk eyed security details at the way bridge, they detected the syndicate and the truck load full of the metals was detained todate.

On perusal, the way bridge personnel unearthed that the notorious scrap company was to pay 9 million worth the verified tonnage as a condition for release of the wares.

According to inside sources, two other conspirators at the way bridge who were to give the Nairobi firm a soft landing spot, were absent from duty that day.

It’s alleged that some cash inducements coffed by the Nairobi firm which was to be shared among the cartel, was only pocked by two senior managers, one of them currently doing parallel studies in Moi University Eldoret courtesy of the dubious deal.

Egocentric antics by the manager in question is said to have culminated into the exposure and sabotage to sneak the goods out of the factory as usual.

Its imperative to note that LITO and NESCAPE Enterprises are owned by the cartel with some illiterate wheeler dealer from Nyando District (AWASI) Tobias Ogongo being the errand boy.

For starters, NESCAPE was some 2 years ago given whooping millions to buy the scrap metals, but the same dubious scenario emerged nowander they were adviced by the top management this time round to use LITO Enterprises to conceal their identity.

In that initial deal, Tobias Ogongo was briefly confined in police custody, but thanks to the financial power of the conduit and influence in the corridors of power, he secured his freedom.

Currently, the cartel has hired the services of an influential cabinet minister and a local MP in the Sugar belt to help them retrieve their wares at a lower cost conducive to them as per their tradition, to the chagrin of a section of management who now wants the government prompt intervention.
