Re: Kenyan Delegation Visit Mr. Calvin Burgess in Oklahoma Ndugu Obong'o, Why you risk being called Burgess' PR team is because your core objective seems to be using Dominion as a chariot to the economic nirvana. Also the way you talk greately about Burgess ignoring the fact that on the ground, there are many people who feel coned and bullied by Dominion Farms. Have you met these people to hear their side of the story before pushing the jarachar down our throats? You talk greatly on how sh3,000 will tranform the lives of people who formerly owned property. What will the 3,000 minimum wage buy in mordern Kenya. The people whose land was taken by eminent domain had their own houses but now they have to rent. They produced their own food but now they have to buy. They had gifts of nature which they have to buy. Their neighbours had access to water but now they have to seek other means to get. There are many other benefits that these people enjoyed that cannot be quantified. I don't know the Kenya you are talking about when you say that the 3,000 will help somebody get computer application skills or a DL. In today's Kenya people have masters degrees, most people don't use secretaries to type since now it is required that you be computer literate to get a job. The same applied to driving. Dominion Farms has taken resources from the masses living them with no option but slave in the farm. Is that the kind of employment that you are begging the Odiero to grant us? Your argument on the enviromental impact is totally uneducated. The swamp acted as a sponge that soacked up excess wanter and released it slowly mitigating the impact of floods. Now that protection has been compromised and its impact on Dominion's neighbors has been devastating. This was not an issue of food vs the enviroment as you put it. Before Dominion, we farmed we were well-fed. So it is not like Dominion came in to rescue the starving by farming and distributing its produce free of charge. My brother, you don't have to worship the odiero and be his mouth piece. If indeed you want to help our people you can still do it withour singing the praised of the odiero. I urge you to go to the ground and have a one on one with the masses. Jackton Joluo.com Akelo nyar Kager, jaluo@jaluo.com |
