WE NEED ONE ANOTHER

Once again the ugly face of dirty politics is cropping up among some of our of Luos.While I consider some of the bitter exchange that I have been reading in this web, I wish to take exception that such type politics is not needed any more. Confrontational politics be it verbal or physical should be a thing of the past among the Luos if we really want Development. As the people of Nyanza we should remind ourselves that we need everybody on Board for any sustainable development to be realized even if he/she is a member of Democratic Party in America like Senator Obama or an ordinary member of ODM in Kenya like a commoner Jamumbo Maurice Aguko Mayora Ojako. This I mean that, we need the most learned scholar from the Diaspora to a mere political hecklers in the village in Kasipul-Kabondo or in the slum in Nairobi to unite in the name of Luo Development without any kind of discrimination and pressure from any person, institution or political group. In this godless- World of sceptism and desperations it is only and only unity in diversity that will give our people faith, certain and hope of the future. We may for the time being forget about politics and politicians and ask our self this question. What can I do to my people of Luo in my personal capacity? Then see other things we can do together with our royal friends like Mr. Elisha Obong'o,Mr Onyango Okello,Nyar Ugenya,Vincent Odhiambo Awino,Meshack Owino,Odhiambo T Oketch, Simon Agwanda Owour and others.We may also see to ourselves how we can involve our politicians in the development matters. Then wait and vote, voting is democratic right and you may vote whoever you like. Let us not discuss our leaders in the open whether we discuss them or not they will remain Nyithindwa.

May the old spirit of this celebrated shrine of Ramogi Ajuan'g permeate the whole generation of today and liberate Jokanyanam from selfishness and political strife and bring us together in a socio- economic and cultural self consciousness to a blessed, free, proud and a peaceful Nyanza united in herself. We must therefore consolidate democracy, freedom and cultivate peace within the Luo community even if we are faced by a difficult political situation. The political process must not make us act like enemies against our fellow brothers and sisters, calling one another's sort of names, but should just help us to realize the trains of thought wisely and carefully and the stream of politics must be guided into a safe channel of issues affecting the community and the society at large. Such issues include but are not limited to;

  1.       Falling academic standard in Nyanza as a whole
  2.        Rising cases of HIV/AIDS orphans and related complications i
  3.        Dilapidated Health facilities
  4.       Increase insecurity
  5.       Reduction in farm produce
  6.       Impoverished infrastructure
  7.       High unemployment rate
  8.        High exploitation of environment
  9.       Water problem in some part of Nyanza Province e.tc.

Let as otherwise remain honest even if we are faced by the volcanic eruptions of human passions and emotional sentiments that seemed stirred either by cruel goddess of distress or by firebrand of words hurled among the masses, they may not be the lemonade-like out pouring of literary aesthetes, but drawing board tactics based on the precise calculations of human weaknesses aim at discouraging some people in participate in the leadership and development process in our community.

I am acknowledging the happy fact that most of the people of Luo are ready to lay down the ghost of the yesteryears. All the past and its shabbiness, loneliness, failures, disappointments should remain in the shadow though it has shaped our minds and characters.

My dear Comrades of Luo let us honor our generation by being united as members of one family for the sake of development in our community. I believe that even if we march down separate paths politically and in our struggle for dignity and pride of our people, it is just momentarily, since destiny will yet bind us one to another. Because if any commoner from the Luo Nyanza was to be abused, oppressed, or even destroyed by anything perhaps as a result of bad leadership in this country, then definitely you and I also would face a hard future, since our future as Luo is bound.

I live you with a joyful heart in your immeasurable ability in deeds and commitments to the welfare of our people. I believe the hour will came when the unity of our people that is today mocked by our enemies shall be salvaged from the millennium mist of time into a vivid reality. The hour when these dry historical facts you have been reading will as if by magic appeal to our sense of national honors and a genuine emotion move our royal people into actions. Such actions will finally bring greatest contributions and changes unique in the history of our people of Luo that bear my name and yours.

Carried away by the enthusiasm of the moment, I shall always sink down on my knees and thank heaven out of the fullness of my hearts for grunting me the fortune of being permitted to live in such a time and among you people of decent, chivalrous, generous, tolerance and of considerable intellectual attainments. The Luos bear the great minds of Africa and the best elements a country can call its own. May all of you consider me a friend.
