Re: [africa-oped] Re: [youthagendayln] FROM LAMENTATIONS 4:2 TO ACTS 101 'The strategy should be how to make these institutions accountable and pro-people and pro-business, pro-workers etc.' These are the kind of tales that do not fit in well with my thinking. It is always too easy to think pro-people, pro-workers and such like high sounding NGO jargons, because, that brings in the bucks. The other day, I laughed when I saw the author of that piece on Television, giving politicians an ultimatum, that all that the politicians are engaged in is hot air. I was not amused, because I learnt that Kepher Ombati has not learnt anything yet; he simply does not have any capacity to give direction to the politics of this country. When we went for that rally at Uhuru Park to drum up support for the Minimum Reforms, the politicians came in and the whole thing was a success. On their own, what we call the civil society is just but hot air. But when Ombati blows cold and hot at the same time like this, it makes me to ask, on whose behalf is he then talking? I bet it should be our concerns as Kenyans to fix the problem. And this is basically why we elect our political leaders every five years, so that they can fix the political problems bedevelling Kenya. Politicians MUST never abdicate what we elect them for to busy bodies answerable to nobody. At least I know, however bad he is, 'Dr' David Mwenje is my current MP, and he must be answerable to all the political issues in Embakasi. And when the elections are called, anybody who wants to be a political leader, has the right to contest against him then. But 'Dr' Mwenje cannot abdicate his authority of being an MP to, lets say, Lameck Siage. No. He must not do that. But Siage has all the rights to contest and win in Embakasi. This brings me to the real beef with the thinking of Kepta. He must not incite Kenyans against the politicians. If he feels the politicians are failing at some level, let him also offer himself as an alternative to his current MP, and we will judge him. At least we have Hon Kibutha Kibwana, the current Mimister for something, who came from where Ombati is currently sitting. At least we now have the benefit of knowing what Kibutha really wanted. When he was in the NGO world, who would believe that Kibutha would be the current Kibwana? So, Kenyans must take the postulations by Kepta, in the same way we now see Kibwana; hot air. Lastly, and this I believe in, because even in the Bible, there is separation of duties. The civil society must do what they are best at, and that is their role which we all appreciate. But when it comes to politics, they should spare us those lectures. Politics is a political problem, which politicians can fix.
