Request for 12 Diaspora representatives at the Minimum Constitutional Review talks I would like to take this opportunity to request 12 (twelve) seats at the table of the so called “minimum constitutional review talks” for our Kenyan men and women in Diaspora. Being the major providers of the funds that keep the Kenyan economy going, it is only fair that the Diaspora is well represented in the talks. It is in the best interest of the country to embrace the contribution of the Diaspora in the constitutional review. Many Kenyan men and women in Diaspora have experienced first hand democracies that are well administered. They can articulate working processes into the constitution better than the average Wanjiku, or the politician whose experience is in the 43 years mismanaged government. Kenyan men and women in Diaspora also have grievances with the current constitution that are specifically discriminatory to them. Issues like registering to vote when in Diaspora, voting when in Diaspora, being a Diaspora MP (yes Diaspora is a large constituency that needs proper representation too), dual citizenship, student affairs etc…etc come to mind. It is important that they speak for themselves at the talks and not through proxies. God’s blessings to all!
