[Jambo] Complaints To KACA Election Commission Public Eye Group 04/23/07 Public Eye was told that there was a meeting in one of the election commissioner's house with suspected candidates in the elections to be carried out next month. Three candidates called complaining that they feel something sinister is being planned. They wanted to know why the meeting was being held at William Nyamongo's house when he is an election commissioner? Those who were meeting there are Mr. Anthony Karanja, Elder Shem Onditi and Mrs Clair Omosa Nunda on Saturday 04/22/07. Public Eye called Elder Onditi who answered back " We had a meeting in Nyamongo's house but he wasn't there; that is to go too low". The complainants wanted Mr. Nyamongo to step down for showing to be on one side. They said " Nyamongo is a commissioner how could a meeting be held in his house? How transparent and fair is he going to be?" Public Eye called Danvas Omare, the commission's secretary, about this developing story and Mr. Omare answered " Candidates who have complaints about an election commissioner should call me and file a complaint. The board will be meeting next weekend". Fair Election Kenya Umoja Association was marred with a lot of complaints ranging from abuse of office and handling it as a private entity. Kenyans would like to have fair and transparent election. Some of the things we assume are right are wrong especially this time that we want to show a good example. Nyamongo's family have all rights to have meetings with other candidates in their house, but it is viewed as a way of planning to rig elections. This is not the right time to have those meetings in an election commissioner's house with candidates who are going to contest. Joluo.com Akelo nyar Kager, jaluo@jaluo.com |
