Re: Nothing works in Kenya, despite all the denials Nyanchama, I am always alive to what President Kibaki does, and sorry, I cannot give him credit for anything. He is simply fixing things he had created either as Kenyatta's finance minister, or as Moi's minister for health. Kenya got into a mess under Kibaki, and given that he was part of creating the problem, he must now fix it. And still, we are paying him to fix it. He is not doing for us any favours by doing the work we employed him to do. As a young man in primary school, I used to pay Kshs 20.00 for my tuition for a whole term. This money I used to pay at the chiefs camp, and then I would be provided with pencils, exercise and text books. Then, there was the Kenya School Equipment Scheme. Can Kibaki tell Kenyans what became of the then affordable education? Later, under his guidance as minister for health, he introduced cost sharing in public hospitals, something that has made the poor of Kenya incapable of affording the cost of hospitalisation. Can he explain? He was to later scuttle the NHIF bill as presented by Hon Charity Ngilu. Against all these and others, I cannot support his current efforts. The negatives in his administration far outweigh the positives. And as someone who voted for him to be my president, now that I have seen his style, I cannot vote for him again. I am firmly against tribalism. Kibaki practices that. I am firmly against corruption. He condones that. I am for a new constitution. He seems to be well served by the current one. So, I do not fall in this category, ' Lies and rapid partisanship will not work.' Sorry if reality bites. Odhiambo T Oketch Joluo.com Akelo nyar Kager, jaluo@jaluo.com |
