Re: Miguna in Political Deep waters From: Roselyn Akombe Dear Compatriots, I believe this is one of the most interesting debate posted here. It is one that we should not write off. We have a post-colonial history in which, the "homeguards" re-wrote history to reap the fruits of the colonial struggle and left the real heroes and heroines of our independence struggle languishing .... We thus must support any initiative at documenting the history of the 'second liberation' to avoid opportunists from taking over...and we have many of those. It is thus healthy for people to question Miguna's role in the struggle. Surely as a social scientist, Miguna should view this as a healthy discussion. It is through this exposé that we can validate or invalidate his participation in the struggle. Adongo Ogony has provided details that most Kenyans do not know of. Through the compilation of such histories, we will be in a position to learn what our people went through. Of course, I agree with many who have written about the hierarchy of suffering in documenting the history. I believe that detention is not the only means of measuring people's involvement in the struggle. What about the planners, the lawyers, the women (like Ida who were involved in the struggle as mothers, wives)? So let us support the initiative and allow scrutiny.. It is the only way we can avoid the mistakes of our fathers. It is the only way we an ensure that the daughters and sons of the Michukis, Njenga Karumes....do not claim political leadership on the basis of their 'liberation history'. It is the only honor we can preserve for the Nduthus, Adungosis et al of our struggle. Roselyn Joluo.com Akelo nyar Kager, jaluo@jaluo.com |
