Re: Power corrupts; or the thinking of it From: aboge001 Gentleman, you should not be shocked that this goverment's officials can order the arrest of anybody and it actually gets done! Never mind that even the police might not even know why thy're arresting the subject! This is what happens when a goverment has little regard for its own laws. Truthfully, political authoritarianizm and lawlessness go hand in hand. This is because institutions are irrelevant. In a democracy, even if this fella had broken the law, there would have been some kind of a process where the man's arrest and arraignment is done. With Mutua becoming the arresting officer, he probably also decides what this person is charged under! Let's take a look at the Standard raid for example. A goverment decides it does not like the editorial policy of the media house, it gets its goons together for a private "meeting", storms the business premises, confiscates and destroys equipment using a "parallel" police force. Not a single person is held accountable! If you question this, you will probably be told that the "democratic space" under this administration is better than the previous one! This is like a person having been cured of Cancer is now celebrating because his new infection, HIV is still in the early stages! More shocking is not that this goverment's officials are ordering arrests, but the hypocricy of our own Western educated members of this listserve who will dismiss your concern with incredile zeal. Whatever happened to Kibaki's world renowed inauguration speech that swore that the law would be the guiding force? Joluo.com Akelo nyar Kager, jaluo@jaluo.com |
