Moving To Constructive Leadership Partisan or non we all do accept the need for good constructive leadership and are always very critical of what we feel is poor leadership. After years of arguments and many leadership changes, many areas of Luo Nyanza are still lagging behind tremendously in matters of development, actually some areas have drastically fallen behind the levels they had attained prior to 1992. I have previously resisted the urge to comment on localised politics because it always draws tribal anecdotes but lately I have come to understand that to fight the menace of tribalism one also has to address issues on local levels. I have witnessed many conversations(some by very highly educated individuals) that have left alot to be desired, these self proclaiming messiahs of change have always fallen short of what really matters. ACTION. Great ideas and plans do not bring about any meaningful changes unless implemented and followed through. It is from this reality that it struck me that we have become a community of negative energy, we poke holes on anything that crops up. We sometimes do this with the best intentions and with the interests of the people we purpotedly represent at heart. We willl always come up with 10 reasons why something will not work but not give even 1 reason as to why it would succeed. How do we change our community? This can be done by first changing ourselves. We have to become enablers, we have to create responsible forums for development. Be part of a project that brings change to your community. Be supprotive of individuals with constructive visions. The visions sometimes may not fit into your ideal plan but give them a chance to build their visions, support them if you can and we will all soon be walking on the path of prosperity. I know this sounds as a simplistic ideology and that is exactly what it is supposed to be. All great achievements that we see today, started from very simple ideas and developed over time into the greatness they are today. My new slogan is "Keep It Simple". If we keep it simple we will bring great change. Erick Otiende Joluo.com Akelo nyar Kager, jaluo@jaluo.com |
