Re: Luoland-learn from your mistakes: Honest response to Joram O. Ragem

Dr Abonyo,

I would have preferred that this discussion takes place at jaluo.com, but it looks like even in this free internet world, they sanction what to post.

I have googled you and found out that you have no experience at all on investments and your expertise is on biology or something close. My hat goes off to you for your academic achievement and I must applaud you for having an idea to call Luos together for the purpose of investing.

This, however is where you go wrong. You do not need many people to sell an investment idea before you even know what you want to invest in. Luos are smart people and those who are seriously interested or have invested will not get hoodwinked to join a band wagon of noise makers wanting to simply get together to "Dance Mpaka Cheee." This "Dance Mpaka Cheee'' mentality is very anti- development and is only equivalent to Kibaki's GNU legalizing Muratina, Busaa and Changaa! Think about what lack of sleep causes and add that to the miles some will have to drive.

It also appears that your call is directed at Luo people uplifting Luo people through joint investment. On the surface it is a good call. It may be viewed as segregation. I am not an economist, but I may not be far from the truth when I say that strong economies are built on small economies first. I cannot help to note that those supporting your call are the likes of Okoth Otura, who are very polarizing and tribalistic personalities. Why can't Calvin Burgess, Okoth Otura and the rest join in investing without us hearing about it? Some of us are already stretched thin with other investments and will be glad to consider buying shares or borrow from your bank when you bring something tangible to the table.

Again it is probable that 2 or 3 people will invest and succeed in sustaining their investment. The opposite is possible, but not probable. I will be very glad if you prove me wrong. Now that you have called a conference for Luos, the burden of proof is on your side to prove otherwise, while jorabuon are busy micro investing even on our back yard!

Joram O. Ragem
