The Last Word Let us take some time out, fellow bloggers. I do understand the source of the acrimony. Ordinarily, this man Moenga does not deserve an answer from Alila son of Oduogo and Asande. I answer him because he is not exactly a fool. He is a vendor of populist vendetta against the Luo. Moenga, if he is a man of age, should know that a Luo will come for his stollen cattle in broad daylight when all the women are watching (I am sorry Douglas; but you have forced me to go back to my rural past to give you an example). That is a real man. That said, he, like other likeminded twits, often use the circumcision excuse to hide Luophorbia; the same way some Jewish Apostles used it in the Acts of the Apostles to block gentiles from gaining Salvation by Faith and advocating Salvation by Deeds (here Circumcision). Moenga is a Luophorbic baby crying about what his parents have been saying for years (thanks to Luo dominance of Nyanza politics and administrations during the colonial times). He is simply saying that the Luo are Nilotic and not Bantu, too smart (another myth) and should be stopped. He is a Luophorbic tribalist. Simple. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ (PS: I must confess that some Diasporic Luo's have circumcised their children, either as a fashion (due peer pressure from in-laws like Moenga) or as a medical precaution (but this is a topic for another discussion). I don't envy them.) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Now, the immediate Future: Let us address the practicability of Kenyan electoral politics (even factoring in the bigoty of the likes of Mr. Moenga). There is a possibility that Hon Odinga, will not be the candidate. In Hon. Odinga's absence, the best option may still be Kalonzo. Why? Because we know a little bit about his mind. He speaks out his mind even though I don't agree with him most of the time. Readers, as a Kenyan (My being Luo aside) I have struggled with this question, and have written about it expressing certain contrarian views before. But I must ask myself the following: what if my hopes were dashed? Why my choice? How do I know that he could protect any Kenyan's interest? The Kamba and the Luo are reliable civil servants, and understand hardship: they are obedient; and are likely to keep promises. A Warrior went for Warrior Blood when they sought out a woman to marry. Let us try one. I know my view is unthinkable to most of my readers, but we must live in the real world, and sometimes, the real world brings things we don't want but may need. (Mudavadi and Ruto have not won my heart). Just a thought. Joseph R. Alila (Author: The Wise One of Ramogiland) Joluo.com Akelo nyar Kager, jaluo@jaluo.com |
