I have given your posting a lot of thought. Kenya will be BUILD from within NOT ABROAD!

I don't think sending people money every other week is resolving the REAL problems.

Pastor, help your people DEVELOP to be self-reliant.

Buying a matatu for your sibbblings or close relatives will help them if they are smart but they will still be asking yu for cash money to buy new tyres, buy gas, and take it for oil change, etc.

It is irritating!

The best thing is TALK to your people and SET a target and goals for them before you help them. Draw a line on the SAND; "if I buy you aka-mtumba matatu please keep off me. Your life is set no more money from me".

Cut all lines of communications until you hear that matatu has helped buy a piece of land, opened a shop,and educated somebody. If you hear that and it rarely happens you have accomplished your mission.

But when you hear whomever you helped has a second wife, ni "mgonjwa", the matatu is in the junkyard, it is a bad sign.

My second suggestion is a lorry to ferry goods and produts wherever. Let someone learn how to drive and manage his new truck. Let them beba beba mizigo everywhere in exchange for pay. Let them migrate to Kisumu or far off wafanye job na biashara kidogo kidogo.

If you do business in your hood people want FREE stuff. Live like an "indian".:))

That said, I really don't see us HELPING people continuosly until we END up in RETIREMENT shelters or Psychiatric wards! People BACK HOME need to know life is far MUCH better there. All they need is EXPLORE their opportunities.

There is NOTHING as annoying as when I hear so-and-so has married a second or third wife! Why? I ask myself!

Let people TURN things around THEMSELVES. Some of us TAUGHT in Primary School after FORM SIX with the Govt with minimal pay for a few months. It made me learn I needed to go elsewhere explore other opportunities as an individual. Sometimes you see a small opportunity you maximise your POTENTIAL.
