Re: The amazing story of Zacchaeus There was a time when Israel was a peculiar Nation, empowered and protected by Yahweh. With God on their side, they went around conquering one Nation after another. Indeed any Nation wanting to attack Israel had to think twice before making such a move. Unfortunately, Israel drifted away from He who meant everything to them. With time, God had no choice but to send them to many years of captivity so as to learn that which they had failed to learn during the good times. By the time the son of God came to "seek and find that which was lost," God's once chosen Nation was under the Roman bondage, something they rejected with all their mighty. With great anger, frustration and many questions, they went about their daily chores hoping to be restored to their original glory. Peradventure the one thing that angered them most was their own people who worked as publicans, or better still, tax collectors. It was this kind of class that Zaccheaus belonged to and as you can imagine, he did not escape the anger from his own. Like all other publicans, he was seen more of a traitor. Some were so offended that Jesus would dare give him a hearing. But there was something different with Zaccheaus which I have always admired. He had some good traits that no one but Jesus alone knew. For you see when He met the poor Galilean man, and was attracted not only to the saving message but also His humility, he wasted no time to make excuses of his past but rather surprised many when he uttered: "Behold, Lord, the half of my goods I give to the poor, and if I have taken any thing from any man by false accusation, I restore him fourfold." (Luke 19:8)What a man! Zacheaus is no doubt my kind of guy. How about you? Just a thought. Pr Birai-612-386-4608 Joluo.com Akelo nyar Kager, jaluo@jaluo.com |
