"Raila lost his innocence during the referendum" Koigi's Tribalistic Tune Those who were there would remember who Koigi was that he is not today. A fighter for fairness and democracy. Atleast that is what Koigi made me believe he is or should I say he was when he was fighting Moi's tribalistic government. But I would say I and the rest of the public who publicly or privately condemned Moi's action against Koigi were blinded by nationality. Koigi woke me up to see what he was really fighting for. That the presidency must not leave the house of Mumbi. This has been dispalyed in Koigi's contributions in parliament and now in his outright prostitution of the facts when he suggested that Raila championed tribalism against Kikuyus. Koigi suggestes and I quote "Since Narc came to power, Raila has championed the rallying of other communities against the Kikuyu whom he called the enemy during and after the referendum on the draft constitution". Koigi who faught tooth and nail against an all powerful president now twists his tongue to state that the referendum was all about all tribes against the Kikuyu. For one, all of us including Koigi read the constitution review and know that the issues of contention had nothing to do with anything about Kikuyu's versus other tribes but had everything to do with presidency. By projecting this to the Kikuyu, the implication is that the presidency will forever be a Kikuyu property and any constitution change that deals with this actually attempts to cut down the Kikuyus and Raila who championed it was rallying other tribes against the Kikuyu. I must say that this suggestion alone proves Koigi as one who pits Kikuyu against other tribes and not Raila against the Kikuyus. Why? Because Raila looks at the constitution as a property of all Kenyans and that the constitution is the law that should be fair and should apply to everyone. The constitution is the property of the republic of Kenya(not the kikuyu or luo). In essence Odinga is fighting for the rule of law for all while Koigi is only fighting for the Rule of law when a person from another tribe is in power. For him when a kikuyu is in power the law should be ignored. It is sad how politicians change their stand so fast. Koigi has become a master in this. But his case is more worse. He has moved from being a patriotic Kenyan all the way to attempting to Kikuyunise the republic of Kenya. I hope the Norwegians ask back their support of Koigi. It is quite easy to trace tribalism in Koigi's writing and actions but you will never see this in Raila's action, speech or writing. You do not need to go far to see this. Raila worked with the Kikuyu's to deliver second liberation, he worked hard to make Kibaki the president and finally he mobilized all Kenyans to eradicate archaic colonial constitution. Where does Koigi come up with these ideas. I know where? It is an inbuilt hate for the Raila and the fear that Raila could be the next president and if Raila becomes the president he will be forced to follow the law. He fears that Raila will not allow short cuts that he is already used to. He fears that Raila will not allow him and his friends to defraud the people of Kenya. He is afraid that he will be asked to return the properties that he unfairly obtained. He fears that Raila will create a fair field of acquiring wealth and will deny him the advantage he has against the poor. He fears that everything will be in the light because he is used to the dark. And finally he fears that Raila will open the presidency to all Kenyans while Koigi believes that the presidency belongs in the house of Mumbi and nowhere else. In this context, who should the public believe, Raila or Koigi. You tell me Dr. Barack Abonyo Joluo.com Akelo nyar Kager, jaluo@jaluo.com |
