Re: I was ordained by the late Father Messiah Melkio of Legio Maria, at Nyalenda slum Calvin Burgess wrote: To all of those beloved Luo living in both in Kenya and outside of Kenya: Dominion Farms only exists because God has ordained it to happen. It has been the most difficult project of my life to accomplish and has consumed the wealth I have accumulated thru-out my life. I believe it is the vehicle of change to begin the transformation of the continent from a donor supported continent to one of dignity, respect, and prosperity. Persons and NGO's now living on the system of donors fear the change coming upon the land. Poverty has been reduced in the district from 85% to 64% according to the local Member of Parliament, since we have come. This is significant and unprecedented for the continent, and it has just begun. Dominion did not come to give donations to anyone or to give handouts for personal causes, and in fact we are opposed to such things; no persons receive any support or funding from us except those laboring on the farm, and the local community. Donations make people dependent upon others and that is not God's plan for Africa or any other place in the world. Work is the backbone of a society along with God's direction and his grace. I want to see a society where people understand that God is their source of supply, and where opportunity is there to change ones personal situation without being reliant on the generosity of those outside. Most of the people living in poverty have now become accustomed to it and it is now their standard of living. This leads to extreme jealousy, poor education, poor health, and in the end to destruction of the community, now being manifest by increased crime, HIV/AIDS, and thousands of orphaned children. These things must change, and with the help of God and the coming together of his people it can be done; but do not forget every force of evil possible will come against this change. Unity is the most powerful force in the world, and it is the hardest to maintain, in the face of so many people with so many agendas. We have a long way to go to achieve what will need to be done to let the healing of the land of Kenya begin. Dominion can not do this on its own. We can provide a business model for other investments to follow and encourage other direct foreign investments in the Luo community, or we can become the example to the world of why investment should not come. This decision will ultimately be up to the Luo people. I am a firm believer in the goodness of the Luo, and am convinced that with education, prayer, and change the area can be transformed into the center of prosperity for the continent, and the example to the world of what can happen if the people come together, work hard, change their ways and let God do what he has promised to do. (Read II Chronicles 7:14) The community farms programs we have proposed to help the local people farm THEIR OWN LAND, with modern techniques and guaranteed markets for their products is a step in that direction, with a coming together of the community to better themselves. The youth training center will bring the knowledge needed for the future to the next generation of Luo leaders. These will only work if we figure out how to lay down our own agendas, stop the jealous infighting and begin a building process of lifting each other up, instead of tearing each other down. Is it possible for all of us to do this? I really do not like getting involved with these forums, but this time I feel that the stakes for Kenya, and particularly for the Luo, lie in your hands as leaders of your community. If we can not get this straight among the leaders then how will you and I be able to set the example to lead the Lou from poverty into prosperity? I pray that we will be able to do this.
