MP and rival clash over use of CDF kitty From: Nicholas Mireri Story by NATION Correspondent Publication Date: 2007/07/17 Nyatike MP Ochola Ogur at the week end clashed with a parliamentary aspirant over the use of CDF kitty. Mr Edick Anyanga, who intends to oppose the MP, accused the CDF committee of funds impropriety claiming the figures in accounting books were exaggerated and did not reflect the actual amounts received for the projects. But Mr Ogur defended himself saying the committee was responsible for disbursement of the money. Mr Ogur, however, said more funds should be put into improving local primary and secondary schools. Lacked facilities He said the institutions performed dismally in national examinations because they lacked necessary facilities. Mr Ogur said local schools sent few students to both public and private universities since they were ill-equipped. They were speaking during the burial of Mr Harrison Okoth in Nyakweri village within Migori District. The chairman of the Lake Basin Development Authority, Mr Owigo Olang, and other parliamentary aspirants – Mr Kennedy Okongo and Dr Mark Ogutu – also attended the burial. Mr Anyanga noted CDF kitty had not helped improve infrastructure in the region which is now in pathetic condition. He said fishermen in Lake Victoria could not deliver their catch to the markets in time due to the deplorable road network. Joluo.com Akelo nyar Kager, jaluo@jaluo.com |
