Re: The future of our children

There is no question that we all love our children and want them to succeed by having a bright future. That's why some of us are willing to do anything that comes our way and have opted to hang around,if only for a little longer, despite the obvious daily challenges.

It goes without saying that by helping our children realize their dreams, it will go well for them and by extension us, as parents.

Perhaps the three uppermost concerns for many parents if not all, lies in:

1.Good education
2.Good career
3.Good family

While we have done very well in the first two(education and career,) I am afraid that we have not paid much attention to number three(future husbands and wives for our kids.) Here is what I mean.

Who our children will marry or married to,will very much depend on what the community thinks about us. This is where you will be surprised to know how much people know about us.

I think you have heard it said,just as I have heard people making such remarks as "so and so is a very nice young man/woman but his/her parents are something else." I know of many marriage plans that have broken at the 11th hour because someone somewhere said something negative about the concerned family.

While it's true that some care less about the parents as long as the young man/woman is a good person, others pay very much attention to the kind of family their son/ daughter will marry from/married to.

My appeal to us parents is this:

1.Let us be nice to the community, church members, and neighbors without any
discrimination whatsoever.
2.A good attitude towards all God's children at our places of work, neighborhood and what have you is a must.
3.Let us be careful what we do, say, and write as this will come back to haunt us.
4.Let us be careful how we treat our spouses as people are either watching or
listening.
5.But above all let us pray for our children and ourselves. Shall we?
