LET KANU WORK WITH ODM Mr Uhuru Kenyatta, leader of the official opposition party KANU, has been quiet on major political policy initiatives for along time. But now the answer is clear. Former president Moi has the last word on KANU. Mr Uhuru is the official spokesperson and leader of his party but he has no power because there are forces more powerful than him who appears to be in control and can order KANU to follow whatever direction they want. It has been known for quite some time within the political circles that H.E. the former president would offer his support to Kibaki, so it does not come as a surprise to keen political pundits that he declares his support for him. Uhuru could not expressly declare his support for ODM-K then because KANU has its owners and he had to wait for the nod from these senior stakeholders before KANU could entrench itself firmly in ODM-K. Uhuru will have to find his own sense of reason and decide which way to go for he cannot simply follow instructions and if he does just as I had stated in one of my previous articles on him, KANU will be a dead horse and he will be headed to political oblivion. When Moi supports Kibaki for re-election, he is telling KANU and all their supporters to follow his direction but am afraid KANU is not the same party it used to be. The party is more divided than ever before and is at its weakest since Independence. Mr Uhuru Kenyatta can still do the right thing and listen to the wishes of the people and let KANU work together with ODM. Some in KANU say that ODM is a tribalist party and full of tribal chiefs. That they have polarised the nation into tribal chiefdoms. I think they are very wrong and Uhuru knows these people are wrong. They are wrong because these same people who shout loudest at perceived tribalists are the ones who have been in power and are still in power but failed to rid the country of this disease for it suited them then. There is no single nationalist party in Kenya today than ODM and that is why I believe KANU has a better chance of gaining its past glory by working together with ODM. Mr Uhuru Kenyatta is my age-mate and a young man; this is his only political opportunity to show the whole nation that he is not a tribalist, that he is a leader who would one day lead Kenya and that he wants what all Kenyans want; posterity and equality of opportunity for all. If the forces of the past become too powerful simply leave them behind and join ODM. Regards Dickson Aduonga Joluo.com Akelo nyar Kager, jaluo@jaluo.com |
