Sent by: Tom Rading Anti Rongo MP demonstration planned By George Onyango Rongo constituency voters are planning a huge demonstration against their MP Hon. Ochilo Ayako over his unbecoming behaviour. Last week, one of the weekly newspapers revealed that the MP has been involved in a sex scandal, something Rongo voters have not taken kindly. Plans for the demonstration are said to be in top gear and received overwhelming support. It is alleged that Ochilo has been having a love affair with a primary school teacher and the husband is now threatening to take legal action against the MP. For beginners, Ochilo is known to have entered parliament at a by-election occasioned by the death of the then MP Linus Aluoch Polo. It was Mbita MP Otieno Kajwang who introduced him to Raila. During the 1997 elections, he defended the seat on LDP ticket and won due to Raila’s influence. He again contested the 2002 election on Narc-LDP ticket and political pundits say he won just because of the Narc-LDP wave that swept Luo Nyanza. With less than 4 months before the December General Elections, Ochilo is a worried man and is said to have been consulting widely, including visiting witchdoctors (AJUOGA) based in Sirare Tanzania. A survey carried out in Rongo by this writer reveals that a former powerful cabinet minister, Dalmas Otieno Anyango is giving Ayako sleepless nights. One, Ayako cannot beat Dalmas in any free and fair elections and two, Dalmas development record can only be compared with that of the late powerful PS Hezekiah Oyugi Ogango or that of Rarieda MP Raphael Tuju. Whereas Ochilo is being cheated that he is Raila’s trusted lieutenant, he has done nothing to make Rongo people give him another term in parliament. He is a proud man who plays ivory tower politics in five star hotels. He is inaccessible and very mean, as he does not assist his constituents even when approached with very critical and meaningful cases. If elections were held today, Dalmas will score 60% of the total votes cast while Ochilo will get a paltry 30% while the remaining candidates will share 10%. Dalmas is said to have mended fences with LDP de facto leader Raila Odinga and has vowed to stick with ODM even if KANu moves out of ODM. It will therefore be a bruising battle between Ochilo and Dalmas should he stick in ODM and political analysts say Dalmas can only loose if he defects from ODM. Ochilo, they say had won previous elections just because of Raila and LDP euphoria. Now that Raila and Dalmas have agreed to work together, and also the fact that Raila has many times reported that he will not influence parliamentary nominations in Luo Nyanza, Ochilo’s days in parliament are numbered. Whether or not he will step into parliament floor again, only time will tell. Joluo.com Akelo nyar Kager, jaluo@jaluo.com |
