Why Moi is supporting Kibaki The recent endorsement of Kibaki for re-election by Moi is no surprise at all. Even though Moi was against the Kibaki presidency, he has come to realize that Kibaki is not that harmful to his interests. Kibaki has protected Moi from his past misdeeds and extended the same to his cronies who had stolen from the government. He wants to score his differences with Raila for having thwarted his 'Uhuru project'. He wants to make sure Raila does not ascend to power while he is alive and prove a point to him that he is still a force to reckon with. Besides, he is not sure what ODM government will do with his ill gotten wealth. Going by what Raila did during his short stitch at the roads ministry by demolishing houses build on road reserves, Moi has sleepless nights to make sure he does not ascend to that position. What Moi has failed to realize is that, he does not have the power to control the Kalenjin vote anymore and his assertion of directing Kalenjins will be futile. They listened to Moi when he had the power but not anymore. If you see how many Kalenjins are moving home with Eldoret express after being replaced in their jobs by the mount Kenya Mafias, Kalenjins have no future with the Kibaki government. Moi may be a lone ranger in the desert of Kalenjin land drumming support for Kibaki. Moi could have remained neutral if he really wanted to attain the status of a statesman.
