Political Parties are Political and Partisan Mr. Mundia, In all fairness, since when was "Parliamnet supposed to be non-partisan and non-political?" Political Parties control the agenda in Parliament, and these parties are political and partisan. And who says that Good Women with appealing political and/or development agenda cannot be elected through the normal participant elctoral process? It sounds like you are one of the many Kenyans (including MPs) who see Parliamentary Representation as a source of employment, which must be dished out by some affirmative action formula. I know that it is the objective of political parties Worldwide to have more women, and some minotiy groups, engaged in political action and reprentative democracy; but the way to do it is to have parties nominatie more women to compete in elections. 50/300 is too great a number of seats to be set a side for a group that is smarter than most men, anyway! Make politics a more honorable sport, and you will see more women becoming politcally engaged. The current political dispensation of name-calling and witch-hunting is too scary to most ladies. Encourage the women to compete on socio-economic issues and they will defeat most men in every poll. Joseph R. Alila (Declaration: I am not a sexist) Joluo.com Akelo nyar Kager, jaluo@jaluo.com |
