Watch out Kanu will be Kibaki’s re-election vehicle, why Rift valley??

I am predicting that President Kibaki will seek re-election for his second and final term on a KANU ticket.

While all that is going on, Kanu, which has to some extent been co-operating with Kibaki, has not come out clearly to say whether it will field a presidential candidate and the reason is because of Kibaki.

Kanu chairman Mr Uhuru Kenyatta also wants to be in Government no matter who forms it ???. He is retaining a faction of the footloose party for leverage.

Former President Moi has declared — in not so many words however — that he could support Kibaki.

Moi has said that KANU can not be swallowed, and on whose ticket would he support KIBAKI other than KIBAKI joining KANU and all the other parties of Mt Kenya (NARC-Kenya and DP) and the rest of the MPS form the government of national Unit will suddenly join him on the KANU party.

It would be a splendid move if Moi convinced Kanu to let the President Kibaki vie on its ticket.

Rift Valley was majority KANU, but suddenly the region is now the stronghold of Raila Odinga’s newly found ODM party. And the fact that the Eldoret North MP William RUTO is stuck with Raila led ODM, has worsened the Moi and Kibaki positions as far as their re-election is concerned.

ODM is the party of the day.

The whole of Rift Valley region except Molo, Nakuru, and Naivasha are now the stronghold of ODM. And the combination of Raila, Henry Kosgey, Kipkalia Kones and Franklin Bett in ODM will be a hard nut to crack, other than if the Professor of Politics (Moi) asks Kibaki to run for a second term on KANU ticket.

Secondly, most of the MPs were closely associated with Ruto have been drumming up support for Ruto and Raila.

Kibaki and Moi would take advantage of the party’s countrywide network instead of going through the NARC-K and DP which are considered as a Mt. Kenya outfits, which might isolate voters from some parts of the country who largely perceive it as a Central Province party.

Kibaki should not be worried of claims of defection because the situation he is in will require a defection of some sort. In any case, defection has become the style of our politics. =====================================================
