Rev George Okoth Otura a Kenyan exiled in Canada and also the president of non-registered global movement Christian Democratic Movement (CDM), Kenya chapter, has already presented the ICC with an avalanche of charges chronicling the aggressions since late 60’s.
Rev Otura and Oduor at the ICC, after filling a complain against Kenya Government, at the Hague, Netherlands. This makes only the second known case against the
Kenya government in the International Court.
The first one
, whose fate is also still pending was filed in December, 2005 by the president
of Luo Communities Everywhere, Odundo jaKarateng’. (http://jaluo.com/wangwach/ In a detailed letter emailed to this journalist, showed that the clergy, who was instrumental for democratization process, working alongside the doyen of opposition politics in Kenya for realization of second liberation, had in fact filled the case at the I.C.C. And the I.C.C’s prosecution department acknowledged the receipt of the indictment charges against Kenya in a letter sent to the Clergy. The indictment charges that is still being studied by the court to see whether it falls within its mandate, includes the mysterious and unresolved high ranking political killings of Luo prominent figures. Top in the pack, is the late flamboyant politician Tom Mboya, the eloquent minister for foreign affairs Dr. Robert Ouko and Dr. Odhiambo Mbai, who was the senior lecturer at Nairobi University and the chairman of the Devolution committee in the ill- fated National Constitution Conference, among others. Okoth Otura who fled to Canada close to five years ago to seek political asylum on grounds that his life is in danger, wants the high profile govt officials who were involved in the 1969 Kisumu Massacre to be tried. Several people were killed when the bodyguards of founding President Jomo Kenyatta sprayed bullets at crowd after he openly differed with the firebrand politician Jaramogi Oginga Odinga during the official opening of the Nyanza Provinceial hospital, commonly known as Russia. Outspoken Otura, who is also the chairman of East Africa Transformation Mission (EATFM), also wants to try the government of the shooting by police killing over 5 people in Kisumu during the 2005 plebiscite exercise, referendum, which was marred by chaos. Rev Otura said that the incumbent regime and the perpetrators of such inhuman activities must own up to their aggressions and prepare for reparations for the atrocities. And by the time of going to the press, the ministry of foreign affairs were yet to confirm the knowledge, that such a case as indeed been filed against Kenya government in Hague. ===================================================== Joluo.com Akelo nyar Kager, jaluo@jaluo.com |
