MOI-KIBAKI ALIIANCE A SHOW OF LACK OF DEMAND FOR INTEGRITY FOR THE HIGH OFFICE Now Moi has emerged again with an endorsement of Kibaki. This is not surprising as other luminaries have suggested but the fact that this endorsement has been accepted by the endorsee, the incumbent Kibaki, is something that respectable Kenyans should be extremely worried about. I dare do a parallel comparison to Florida governatarial election. Governor Charlie Crist at one point refused to appear on one podium with president Bush during his campaign for the governor of Florida because, at this point Bush popularity had dwindled because of Iraq war, Abu grab, and other issues. In fact Bush appeared at a campaign rally that was openly avoided by Crist. The reason for this is that Charlie could not dare risk the votes because Florida voters could have associated him with the Bush failures and could have surely voted against him. Since that time, I have not heard president Bush endorse any other presidential candidate and if he dare do that, it will be met with a complete dissociation or repulsion. This is because USA citizens hold their presidential candidates to higher level of integrity. For USA citizens, issues and integrity is the key. You can never take this people for granted. You are corrupt, silly or did not deliver in the past, you get voted out or you are forced to resign. In the US even your friends as a presidential candidate may deliver you an election defeat blow. For Kenyans, a failure for the over 24 years still has the audacity to tell us who to vote and still thinks he has the power to steer up a direction. How sad? My point of view is that the reason why Moi can come out of the closet and tell the people of Rift Valley that he will show them who to support is a mockery of the people. Goldenberg, Ouko's death, Muge's death, JM's death, detention without trial, torture, collapse of all parastatals, collapse of agricultural industries, the worst economic development ever, tribalism etc etc all happened under the watch of Moi. Such a chain of terrible events should have sent the old man straight to jail. However, for the case of Kenya Nyayo is still out there backing endorsements and sure enough there are people, very very much dignified people supporting that. What a shame. The only one thing that cut such acts down to size is the rule of law and responsible citizens. I therefore accuse the people of Kenya. I accuse the people of Kenya for not condemning this and I accuse Kibaki for accepting the endorsement. This has nothing to do with tribalism and regional politics. It has everything to do with the integrity of our political system. How does one accept an endorsement from a person who covered up death after death. Isn't human blood precious. How can someone accept endorsement of a person who single handedly almost made the economy of Kenya collapse, haven't we seen enough poverty? The issue is simple. Birds of the same feathers flock together. Kibaki has covered up corruption, has presided over tribalism, hated democracy, never raised a finger when JM died, has not thoroughly followed up Odhiambo Mbai's death and hence does not see himself different from Moi. And since we tolerated Moi for 24 years, Kibaki hopes that wanainchi will do this again. Infact, Kibaki, like Moi and other African dictators hope to rule Kenya until his death. Otherwise there is no way to justify why a failure for 24 years like Moi could be important for Kibaki's re-election. Indeed, Kibaki should have turned down the endorsement. But since Kibaki has sacrificed his integrity and has chosen to liaise with a criminal, it is time for the people of Kenya to reject Kibaki too. It is time for Wanainchi to say it loud and clear at the ballot box, KIBAKI TOKA. DR. BARACK ABONYO. Joluo.com Akelo nyar Kager, jaluo@jaluo.com |
