Re: A closer look @ I, Me, & Myself. On this labor holiday @ the United States of America, let us take a few moments to evaluate ourselves, something that we do all the time anyway. For the sake of this posting, I wish to invite you to compare yourself with your friends, school mates, neighbors, church members, colleagues, your leaders, teachers, pastors, and what have you. After such comparison, you will most definitely arrive at one or all of the following: 1.Learned more than------ 2.Handsome/beautiful more than-------- 3.Better placed financially than--------- 4.Write and speak English fluently than--------- 5.Earning more than--------------- 6.Driving a better car than............... 7.Live in a better house than............. 8.Know more people than................... 9.Sings better than....................... 10.Preaches/teaches better than........... 11.Your church has more members than........ 12.Your children are better than........ 13.Your tribe/race is better than.......and so the list goes. Any time you compare yourself with someone else, you are most likely to develop an attitude of "better than thou," which usually leads to arrogance/pride. As it might have occurred to you, an arrogant person has no regard for others whatsoever. He or she thinks about himself or herself. Why? Because no one else can do anything better than him or her. History reveals that there are people who have even thought themselves better than God. Check out the following and the end result. Exodus 5:2 "And Pharaoh said, who is Lord that I should obey his voice to let Israel go? I know not the Lord, neither will I let Israel go." Daniel 5:30 "The King spake and said,is not this great Babylon that I have built?..." Luke 18:11 "The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, God, I thank thee that I am not as other men are....even as this publican." Now, it's possible that you may be better of in many areas, but the good Lord says that the only self glory that he accepts is this: "that we understands and knows Him."(Jeremiah 9:23-24.) So, the bottom line is this, let us stop comparing ourselves with others. Instead, let us use that which the good Lord has given us to bless His children. The way to start is to: "Let this mind be in you that was in Christ Jesus....." Philippians 2:5-8. Oh! How I pray that that should be my experience on this labor day and on wards. How about you my friend? Just a thought.
