"Jaluo" must embrace ICT! For a society to make significant gains in the 21st Century-a post-induatrialised world (the fact some of us are still in pre-agrarian period, notwithstanding), certain basic standards must exist not only in theory but also in practice by the people of that society. Some of us already "know" what I am talking about! Zero tolerance to "corruption", goverment of "national unity", free primary education, the rule of "law", and the respect for human rights, food security, good health services, record breaking 7% economic growth index...........you name it. I have absolutely no problem with whatever "we" aforementioned, and indeed, its witty to keep hullaballooing up and about these things, but I insist that whatever "Jaluo" and indeed all Kenyans values today("liquid-buzz, solids-mchomo and gases-wines and spirits, latest customised car models, latest "Italian" wears.................. feel free to fill the list as ussual), The internet(the defacto part of ICT) for example, must be a priority! Since its inception, the internet has outpaced its technological predescesors, the tv and the automobile, in impacting society. Freedom of expression is a wonderful thing, but of what importance is it when one does not have the channel to express the views s/he has? The internet gives you basis for an informed debate and the chance to engage other people with divergent views (whatever they may be) on any issue that may saverely deter human development. Nevertheless, do not make a mistake about it, the internet has much bigger role to play in the society rather than just brousing, e-mails, charting or "VoIPing", an issue for the scholars in the relevant academic fields. I am reliably informed that The Horses / The Chameleones {Full / Half Oranges or whatever you want to call them (or both?- you know better)} issues are reigning supreme in the country today, but the fact is, while elections may be here for a year or so, and you need to vote, the internet is here to stay and you either get on board, or forever hold your peace in extincton.Over to you.
