PNU is about DP

Of the Kibaki Tena campaign team, the Kenya Press has proved once again that it cannot read between the lines. That Karua, Murugaru, and other Mt Kenya Luminaries are not part of the team is no news; that Karume, Saitoti and Kenyatta are part of the team is of little news value beacuse Kibaki has bagged the Mt. Kenya-Gema vote. That Moi is not named in the team is no news for he is the chief cheerleader in Rift Valley.

The newsworthy observation is that PNU's Kibaki Tena Team is about DP (emphasized): Kibaki, Karume (the Money Bag), Nyamweya, and Munyao, will be the engines of the team.

That Chelimo, Tuju, Saitoti, Nyachaye, Kombo, Kirwa, Shakombo, Obwocha, Abdi and other 25-percenters are part of the team is the real news. These players from outside Central Province are cheerleaders on a national show for two reasons: One, these chiefs give Kibaki Tena Team an appearance of a coherent National Team. Second, these players will have earned their day if they bring in 25% from their provinces. It does not matter that, in the process, some of them will not be reelected. That is what is newsworthy.

Kombo's brand of Ford-Kenya, the current occupier of Oginga Odinga House, has folded up. It will be fielding candidates as PNU. Why? Ford-K has become an empty shell after losing favor with homegrown prophets telling it to look West for a Rainbow---a sign of a future rain. It has also been shaken by the dual Raila-Mudavadi punch. The rest of Ford-K's membership have gone to Dr. Kituyi's New Ford-Kenya. Curiously, and ironically, at this late hour in the election calendar, Mr. Kombo has camped at State House nagotiating for plum international postings for his cousins in exchange for Ford-K's conversion to PNU. Mr. Kombo knows something the prophets don't.
