Re: Magara & Ruto hurt in Nyamaramb-VIGILANTE Group From: nmatunda; Wed, 26 Sep 2007 14:10:14 -0000 Please note that I have not, in any place, advocated for violence. Thanks. Matunda Nyanchama nmatunda wrote: John Vorster, There is a section of fanatic marauders who will always throw barbs at me no matter what I say. They are so predictable and (at times) I am tempted to irk them for the sake of it, if these were not serious matters of life and death. I have a think skin, developed over time. I also know that words are words; and that as we say in Gusii "you cannot start a fire using hot water"! Theirs is vapourous venom; caustic yes! Harmful? Nyet! The fact is that violence is violence and no one should advocate for it against anyone, no matter how high the stakes. Violence should be censored! Our hope is that we develop a democratic culture where there is respect for each other, and especially of opponents; and where mwananchi is the arbiter. That said, let's say you John Vorster are waving a panga at me; and I know you are not right to do that. I should perhaps call for help from law enforcement to deal with you, rather than walking at you and possibly getting myself hurt. There is no reason to fan embers of anger unless you are out to cause trouble. Now assume that Magara was the one holding a meeting and his opponents land a helicopter right in the middle of the meeting, uninvited! Wouldn't he feel insulted that the opponents are spoiling for a fight! James Mamboleo and his ilk can spew as much venom as they like; I doubt that they would react without being provoked were they to find themselves in a situation as there was in Nyamarambe. And law enforcement knows this too well; and the reason they never license parallel rallies/meetings in the same venue. Magara, Ruto and co could wait and hold a similar rally at the same venue at a different time. One final, and perhaps the last one on this issue from me: recently Omingo Magara's own sister, who intends to run against him, was visited with violence suspected to have been perpetrated by her brother and his supporters. It was a violent act that everyone should have condemned, regardless of the fact that it was a sister-brother political duel. I would like to hear as much condemnation of such acts as what we saw today. Matunda Nyanchama Joluo.com Akelo nyar Kager, jaluo@jaluo.com |
