Re: ARE RAILA?S SUPPORTERS HONEST WITH HIM ON MAJIMBO DEBATE ? I hope that they are honest on Majimboism. On a different note, there has been this issue of Tanzanians harassing and arresting Kenyans. Two recent incidents come to mind. First, the arrest of fishermen on Lake Victoria for allegedly fishing in Tanzanian waters illegally; and second, the shooting to death of 14 suspects for allegedly staking out a bank in Moshi with intent to rob. But what has amazed me, jothurwa, is how the incidents have been received by the Kenya government and Kenyans in general. The second incident has attracted more attention and action from the government. Newspapers and NGO activities have been very loud on the second incident. Kenyan police and investigators have even travelled to Moshi, Tanzania, to look into the second incident. On the other hand, the first incident has not atracted as much attention as the second incident. Not even our own Luo legislators have given the first incident as much attention as it deserves. Forgive me for my cynicism. But it seems to me that the criminals who were shot to death in Moshi are somehow more important to the Kenyan government, newspapers, and NGO's activists than ordinary Luo fishermen who have been languishing in Tanzanian jails for doing nothing other trying to eke a living by fishing in their ancestral lake. As the shooting to death of common criminals gets loud mention in the press and attention by the Kenyan government, that of ordinary, poor fishermen, some of them orphans, goes unsaid.
