Were Raila and ODM ‘Malooned’ politically? Just like Godfrey Odhiambo (Luther) and Gabriella Mutia (Di) of Malooned, were ‘Malooned’ in a toilet at some skyscraper in Nairobi it seems that ODM had passed through the same experience before electing Agwambo as their presidential torchbearer at Kasarani. As its director, Bob Nyanja put it that, ‘we are all locked up in our toilets of life and our single goal is to get out and we cannot do that alone’. Interesting the best part for many is where Luther artfully accommodates her with his time and jacket though previously he had a sleek stump speech for Di. Certainly Di faced a feistier Luther by doling out kisses and hugs. The Worker-holic turned Dad-aholic Luther made a desperate attempt by pitching tent with his hand around her womanhood as they melted together into the night every night until the door was ‘unlocked’. They literally deflated tribal, traditional and cultural balloons. The sharp romantic drama of misadventures of the two as they desperately try to escape from the ladies’ toilet with peekaboo is what we may be experiencing in our current political situation. ‘We are all locked up in some tribo-political toilet’ and the toilet is damn dirty. Interestingly the drama captures that true picture of Kalonzo Musyoka. Just like Daniel Ndambuki a.k.a Churchill, as a street urchin who instead of being with Di’s shoes he opts to sell the off to make money. Kalonzo opted to do likewise by sticking ‘alone’ around ODM-Kenya. Again Charles Bukeko a.k.a Wanyonyi, as a dedicated night-guard, Western Kenya has literally complicated the voting pattern for our election. Like in our politics are we affectionate, intimate and expressing our political love, friendship and togetherness by defining our coalition politics? The election of Raila Amollo Odinga as ODM’s presidential torchbearer and the inverse noise generated by Narc-Kenya sympathizers shows how neo-conservatism seems an eloquent testimony in our politics. Is political liberalism in Kenya failing or wining souls? Our current political adjustments and realignment that touch on our history, democracy, equality, economy inclusiveness and the “social class affair”, is not only ‘confusing’ but indeed un-maturing. As we renew our understanding and reflect on our re-deconstructed democrats, our challenge comes when we refuse to conceptualize change for leadership with our neo-politics of stomach politics. The pentagon-ODM caretakers as radicals are certainly political activists with a socialist mind and directing vision of the future. Their working principles of democratic socialism has opened up politics, increased rates of participation and inclusion, made decision making shared without a full-scale attack on individuals’ life and liberal values. All these have brought a total traditional and Cultural Revolution for Kenya and the larger African continent. Many claim that ODM’s socialism has taken us too many evenings for consultations and bargaining. Though significant in question, the rather one-million-per-plate-dinner only exposes socio-political class with members possessing technical, financial and intellectual than political and leadership wherewithal at the expense of the ordinary poor citizens. Economically this elite class’s intention is to sell their services and hold top jobs using political campaign as their yardstick to achieve their manna. It has been argued that the same is insufficiently aggressive in political defense for whoever is affiliated to it as a presidential aspirant. These prototypical ‘economic’ members of the new political class and with associates in several governmental institutions have political problem that would only choke their financial coffers as real politics and leadership stare at them. Being monolithic in perception, they view political liberalism with suspicion and dictatorial tendencies. What they only bring as worth is their business in politics than what the ordinary yearn to have. True leadership for all. These neo-conservations demonstrate ‘nervous non-political liberalism’ and eventually cursing ODM’s liberal civilization that is aggressively political. In fact what they are living with today is the identity crisis of political liberal triumph. With a goal of pursuing uninhabited private ends. Ready to produce the greatest financial goodies in the name of a campaign for the greatest, small-political class that excludes those who are too poor, too weak or too afraid to compete in a free market. Though liberal utilitarianism posts individuals absolutely free to make their own choices and measure their own monetary happiness and worth, ODM certainly does not approve of this kind of sectarian ‘politics’. Increment in monetary political wherewithal alone would only contribute to a decline in socio-political life with goals and satisfaction being private. Currently many ordinary Kenyans believe that our politics has turned into a spectator and crowd pulling sport with flowers, oranges and colors as tools for championing their rights than practical ideologies. This confusion has rather brought no sense of our social cohesion in our political leadership. We have become an economic country rather than a united nation Leadership change is something more than academic production with significant GDP estimates. As for Raila, it has been a vital exiting world of work and struggle. The collective effort, mutual recognition and armored social competition only re-affirm ODM’s spirit of bringing positive changes to all. The team has since demonstrated democratic decentralization of power from the state organs and some individuals. The seizing of power by ordinary mwananchi and scaling the government down into human size is what Kenyans have been waiting for. This all inclusive of participatory democracy in which everyone is free to shape the politics and leadership affecting his/her life, only safeguards our human rights and enforces equality among citizens. It seems that those in government had quit thinking since they were elected in 2002.Our vision ought to be progressive and changing, thus ODM’s utopian is a vital tonic vision that should go beyond the December 2007 elections Regards, Mundia Mundia Jnr Joluo.com Akelo nyar Kager, jaluo@jaluo.com |
